Hi

Is Ohana the only place you can get Lapu Lapu?

Thanx

Stefy x

Hmmmm....sounds intriguing...what is a lapu lapu???

Its an alcoholic cocktail served in a real pineapple shell

Yumm...never had one of those but it does sound yummy!!

You can get them at the Tambu Lounge outside of Ohana, so you dont' have to be dining at Ohana in order to get them. We have gotten them there and taken them out to the beach to watch the fireworks. I think people have been able to get them when dining at Kona Cafe also.

We were at the luau in April 2006 & I don't recall seeing anyone with one.

IMHO, this is a nice drink, but not worth the $16 price tag ($13 and change with tip). Presentation was beautiful, but the drink seemed to be lacking something key....ALCOHOL! It was fruity, I'll give it that. I'll try anything once, and in my case, once was enough.

 $16???? Forget that....I'm wayyyyy to cheap!!!

I wanted to try one at our Ohana dinner next week.. but at $16 (holy moly! ) I think I'll skip it.

Just had one last week at Ohana, and it was 12.99 then a SURCHARGE of 3.95, OUCH! (during dinner on DDP, so charged to our room)
While it looked pretty in the coconut shell it was not a great drink and TOTALLY agree with last post'r that it LACKED the alcohol. Our earlier drink, at $8.00 at the bar was better, forgot the name though.

Thanx guys

From previous posts on other threads people have said that after two you start to feel a bit tipsy.

Drank one on Saturday, bought it myself by walking up to the bar before our $13.00 and then tax and left tip. 2 of us shared it and took lots of pictures. It was fun to drink something out of a pineapple just once. I had one other drink this weekend and it was a blue glowtini inspired by the Year of A Million Dreams and it was good. $9 price tag but I felt it was very strong--stronger than the Lapu Lapu

The last time i was there i never noticed a surcharge for it, is that new??? Granted we ate there in 05 i think it was or may of 06.

I ordered one while eating dinner at Kona Cafe. It was really good, but really really really strong. You could smell the alcohol as soon as our server brought it to the table. MK was LOTS of fun that night :lmao:

while I am sure there is some variation in alcohol due to each bartender who makes each drink, I also think the impression of how much alcohol is in a lapu is up to the tastes of each individual...meaning: someone who doesn't drink mixed drinks often may think it seems more strong than someone who is used to drinking cocktails regularly.

I drink cocktails and wine (never beer) and I don't find the taste of lapu lapu's to be very strong....they do catch up with you after a couple 2 or 3, but it's not like I ever feel wasted from them, lol. Basically, the most important thing is they are yummy and fruity and they go down easy. But they aren't a great choice for getting drunk. LOL

If you don't drink alcohol very often, you might want to stick to one. If you are used to drinking cocktails straight up, you probably won't think lapus are too strong.

OMG that was me too! I had two for my birthday dinner, then we monorailed over to the MK. Dh and the kids got very sick of me waving and yelling to the Spectro floats like an idiot! And BTMRR was never so much fun. The next morning? Not so fun! And sad to say, I do drink mixed drinks pretty regularly. I ordered one last September and asked them to bring me some extra pineapple juice. It tasted like pure rum. Needles to say, I only had one that night.

I didn't remember they were that expensive though, that seems really high...
