Laptops through airport security- 1 more question

I believe the revamped Virgin planes that go from LHW have the power sockets in the their PE section, but I may be wrong. Failing that get a macbook, the battery lasts for ages on one charge lol

Thanks. It doesn't really matter. We usually pass the time okay and with the IFE I know DD will see something she hasn't watched before so I was just exploring an option out of curiosity. Flying from Glasgow so no idea what planes we'll get - first time not going from Manchester.

To be honest, IFE has got so much better over the last few years. Thompson had the best I've seen when I flew with them last year, all touch screen, you could start and stop when u wanted, pause at any time. They also had a massive selection of music you could listen to, 100+ albums and all diff genres.

You know, this is true. But I always wonder with some of the major airlines ..... For example, as far back as 8 or 9 years ago I know KLM had AVOD so you could entertain yourself as you pleased throughout the flight. Why has it taken so long for the other "Big Ones" to catch up?! lol

BA have had AVOD on the flight we use to the caribbean for many years. It really depends on how new the planes are or when they had a major refurb. As always, it comes down to £££s, and whether the airline thinks they need to improve things to compete. These days they all seem to be in the mode of charging more for less.

Hi! Can I ask a question that I don't think has been covered yet. We have decided to take a laptop with us now as well. When you board the plane does the laptop bag count as your hand luggage, or can you still take another bag as well? I usually have a messenger bag with all our documents, the camera and a book in. Its a bit bigger than a handbag, but my AppleMac wouldn't fit in it. Do I need to get another bag that will fit everything including laptop in, or can I take two bags on as handluggage (flying with Virgin). Thanks!:goodvibes

i'm editing my response after reading Wayne's response below mine....turns out virgin is more restrictive than BA...

Here's Virgins allowance, I have one of these fits everything in I need. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lowepro-Compu...vr_id=&cguid=85d8a08b1270a0e204562ef6ff2cc9e6

Economy and Premium Economy passengers may take 1 piece of hand baggage on board. Individual dimensions not to exceed 23 x 36 x 56cm, (approx 9 x 14 x 22 inches) and 13lb/6kg in weight.

ADDITIONAL CABIN ITEMS PERMITTED
In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board:

A handbag, pocketbook or purse i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage.
An overcoat or wrap.
An umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick.
A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
Infants food for consumption in flight.
A small amount of duty free goods.
Personal headphones may be used as long as they are fitted with the standard 3.5mm jack.

I was on their site late last night checking the hand luggage story and they are quite specific that your laptop bag counts as your hand luggage or else the laptop has to fit into the bag you are using for carry on.

And then you get the above additional item(s) as listed by Wayne on top of that. I wonder how they draw the line at a reasonable level for the little extras. I mean if someone took their coat, umbrella, purse, camera, etc, that amounts to a lot of extra stuff. I hate loose things. I bought a laptop backpack that will fit the laptop, camera, cables and everything else I need. No handbag for me on holiday - at least not at Disney.
