I was wondering if anyone plans on bringing a laptop computer onboard the ship. We want to bring ours, but it seems like it would be unsafe. Also, how much is internet access for the 3 day cruise?

Thanks,
jenny  :teeth:

Unless you have kids that are addicted to games on it or something I wouldn't bother with a laptop. You can't connect to the internet with it anyway - except maybe via ship to shore line EXPENSIVE!

I think it is $39 for unlimited access on the 3/4 day cruises. $89 on 7 day.

We always take our laptop. It allows for a little catch up work late at night or a movie on the DVD. I also use it to dump my pictures into from my digital camera as I tend to take ALOT of pictures.
I leave it in the room and have never had a problem.

I am going to bring mine along, mainly for photo storage from my digital camera. I plan on burning the photos to CD, just to be safe.

It will also come in handy:
- on the plane (watching DVDs and playing games)
- on the ship (stargazing and photo organization)
- confirming reservation numbers and vacation information.

Don't get me wrong, though... I know I won't be using it for most of the cruise (and miss out on everything... No way!)!!:smooth:

I always bring my laptop as well, no matter which ship or cruise line I'm on. When I arrive in the stateroom I plug it in and leave it on 24 hrs/day for the entire cruise - it sits on the desk. I can't imagine a cabin steward bothering it or stealing it - it seems perfectly safe to me.

Always take my laptop for picture storage. If I am close enough to shore that my cell phone works can cart it to the top deck, enjoy the sun and download all those nasty emails from home and work. Best of all I can send some of the pictures off to friends at home.

Haven't had a problem with anybody tampering with the system in the cabin.

Unfortunately, unless something has changed, you can not hook up the laptop to the inroom phone's data port. On my first DCL trip on the Wonder in April 2002 I was told they would not work and there was no plans of hooking them up.

The Internet Cafe is worthless for emailing pictures since they do not allow you to hook your system up to their network, they can't handle CD-ROMs, only floppy disks for transfer of pictures to their system. I unfortunately left my floppy drive home and my cell phone broke on the first day at WDW on my last trip in Feb. '03:bounce:

I know we can't use them in our cabin for an internet connection, but we always bring our laptop with us wherever we go... mostly to download pictures and same as other posters, we bring DVD's with us to watch on the plane.

Just be prepared when you're in security lines to take it out BEFORE you get to the security table, so you're not holding up the rest of the line struggling to get it out of the luggage.
