where do you keep your laptops in your rooms? Can they fit into the safe, or is there some type of lock you can purchase for it?
I can't think how big that safe is.

on our last stay at SSR we left our laptop in the carrying case. We felt secure, but I guess anything bad could have happened. I suppose I will be trusting until something bad happens on a trip.:thumbsup2

I know this is bad, but I typically leave mine on the table where I set up my command post.

I have a cable lock. Wrap it around the end table in the living room, above the crossbar.

We stayed at SSR in Dec 2007. My laptop fit into the wall safe in our room. I don't know if all DVC rooms have a standard sized safe.

Mikeandkarla, what type of room were you in at SSR? We stayed in an SSR studio on our last trip and I don't remember the wall safe being large enough for a laptop. We'll be in a one bedroom on the next trip and I'm wondering if the wall safe could be larger?? TIA.

My daughter's IBM ThinkPad (about 15") fit into the safe in the SSR studio, but my husband's tiny little travel laptop did not fit in the safe at BWV. If that one didn't fit, none of them will.

We have the standard laptop cable locks you can get at Best Buy et. al. We put the laptops in their bags put the bags in the closet then run the cables through the clothing shelves and down though the carrying case handles and finally into the lock holes. I know this is a bet of overkill but if it makes it more work to steal them hopefully they will be left alone.

We`always take a picture of our laptop, as soon as we get in the room, making sure part of the room is visible and the date stamp is on. You hate to think of anything bad happening at Disney World, but at least with a picture, you would have proof of possession. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Both great ideas! Thanks.

cable lock is going to be your best bet as the safes do seem awfully small. I know my 15 inch macbook pro does not come close to fitting in any safe i've tried

I just thought of something that we may do next time. Take out the battery and the power cord and lock them up. Would that work?

Both of those items are easy to replace (and not very expensive, either ) - I doubt it would deter a thief. The cable lock is a better option, IMHO.

Cable lock. What is more potentially valuable than your laptop is what information may be on said laptop. If you have stored passwords, or other financial information, on it that could be more valuble than the item itself.

Better safe than sorry. For this reason, I never store passwords to email accounts or anything purchase-related on my computer.

:scared1: Yikes! Hadn't even thought about that!

Carol, you are too kind! My mind just had someone sitting in our room and grabbing info off of the computer. I forgot that they could just walk out the door with the darn thing!!:rotfl2:
