My Laptop Computer broke last night. This weekend were going to the store to buy a new one. What is the best Laptop Computer to buy? I hoping to find a cheaper one. Thanks for any help

Don't buy a Dell.
This piece of crap infuriates me.

Lol, I have an acer. It was super super super cheap, and seeing as I had to buy it myself (read: I no longer have a job therefore I'm broke.) it was fine. It has 3gb of memory, I think.

The one thing I love is that it doesn't get really hot. The built in fan cools it off quickly. It goes pretty fast and everything. It's light so good to carry around campus.

Battery = 2 hours = Epicwin.

Dell's are so annoying. My dad's broke three times. >.<

I'm guessing a mac wouldn't be in your price range, though it's what I would suggest.
Even if it takes you a bit longer to save for, it is worth it trust me.

I have a dell and had it for about 3 years. It's only crashed once, and it's alright.
I'm sure there are better things out there though.

Plus the battery sucks after awhile. It only lasts for about 30 minutes now when it used to last like 2 1/2 hours.

I've heard bad things about Dells. I have an HP Pavilion dv6000. I had one just like it but the screen went out 15 months after I bought it so I have this one. Otherwise it's been pretty good. :)

I know Acers are cheaper computers. I'd assume it would be good for just basic computer stuff (internet, pictures, etc).

The battery does suck.
Mine was lasting about 2 hours, maybe 2 1/2 hours before I sent it in to get my battery problem fixed. It lasted about 3 hours when I first got it.
Around September or October (about 2 months after I got it), it stopped charging when I plugged it in. It said 'Plugged in, not charging'.
So I'd have to fiddle with it (twirl the plug) and it'd work, or certain outlets would charge right away.
After a while, no outlet worked, and fiddling took like 5 minutes to work.
And then it just owuldn't charge at all.
I got a new service board when I sent it in and it seems to be working pretty good.
But when I turn it on, sometimes it tells me that I don't have a WLAN card and that I should update my drivers. Well, I do have one, and my drivers don't need updating. So I restart my computer and my internet connects.. :confused3

The other day it just refused to turn on twice.. that was weird...

Also before I sent it in, the mouse was being funny. If I closed the cover and opened it again, it'd take about a billion clicks before my mouse would lag when I used the touchpad (it'd move but slowly).

Back in December my computer crashed. Like it'd just randomly freeze up and the only way to turn it off was to shut down not properly. It kept doing this, and then wouldn't turn on at all.. it was something to do with Vista I believe, so I couldn't go and get any of my files, I lost all my pictures =/
Had to wipe everything off and reinstall Vista.

Don't get me wrong, I love my computer.. but I had tons of problems in the first like 6 months I owned it.

Hilary,
Mine has never done that, but it's got so old that the battery gives out and doesn't last very long without being plugged in. But it happened about a year ago and again this year, in a shorter amount of time than before.
I think the battery is $30 for a new one, but I really don't want to spend money on that.

Then when it crashed I tried to restart it and when I did the toolbar wouldn't come up at the bottom so I couldn't even turn it off and when I pressed the power it still came up the same. So I ended up cleaning everything out, luckily it was all saved on discs and whatnot.

What one do you have?

I'm not sure how much the battery is myself, as I've got a warranty with them that covers it I believe. I figured they'd replace my battery, but I got a new service board (whatever that is) and a new adaptor. No charge. Dell will fix things are are wrong with the computer, but not the operating system.

That's basically what happened to me. Some of it would show up, and the tool bar wouldn't. Sometimes it'd get stuck on the loading screen.
I got different results everytime, but the point was, it was crashing and not working.

I have Inspiron 1525

My warranty's up I guess because they wouldn't pay for it, but it's just something that can be popped in and out so that might be why. They did get into my computer once to fix something but I'm not sure what it was.

Yeah, it was just the background and nothing else. Mine's a 1501.
I'm getting a new one before I go to college since this one probably isn't going to be alive by then.
