My twins are each asking for lap-tops for Christmas. I do not want to spend a ton of money on them. They basically need/want them to do some school work and play on.

I noticed Toys R Us has Netbooks for cheap on Thursday, anyone know anything about this one??

Or has any other deals that they know about?? TIA!!:):thumbsup2

Get to Target this Sunday before they open. They will have the Acer Aspire netbooks on sale for $179 and it comes with a free sleeve.:goodvibes

I just bought the same one from walmart.com for $178 but no sleeve.
Radio Shack will also have them on sale for about the same price on Black Friday but if you can get to Target early Sunday then you can avoid the BF crowds.

Great thanks, any online deals?

Does anyone know if Target will limit how many I can purchase??

I looked at the netbooks and decided against them for one major reason - they don't have a CD/DVD drive! You can get an external one, but then you'd be almost up to the price of an inexpensive laptop.

1) Walmart just sold $349 ACER netbooks for $138.
2) ALLEGEDLY, Target next week does them for $168.

They are around $279 full price, so that $349 number is jacked up to make the sale price look better. There's a newer model out that does cost more, but this model is older and has seen a price drop.

My thoughts, exactly. Now just trying to determine if DD could live w/out the cd/dvd drive and use the desktop for things like that. Given the sale price, it's as cheap as buying a Nintendo Dsi. What to do, what to do...?

Is this things super slow loading pages?

We have an asus eee netbook and love it. I do not notice a difference in speed between in and the larger laptop. My only complaint is the keyboard is not easy to use, but there are other netbooks with better keys. We did buy an external drive in order to get microsoft office into it. I would look at what types of programs you are going to need and then figure out how you will get them on. We paid about $100 for the external cd/dvd which would allow you to get the programs onto both netbooks. Many programs can also be downloaded directly from the net now so it may not be necessary at all.

My kids like to watch DVDs on their laptops in the car on longer drives. Its great because they can each watch what they want and use earphones. That made the CD/DVD drive necessary. They also like to burn CD's from their iTunes.

OP you can get an external drive for about $40 and you only need to buy one. They can share it. Load the DVDs before you leave home.

Got an ACER laptop (not netbook) with Windows 7 last year around this time at Best Buy for $246. It was an unannounced sale that I read about on this board. The first employee I asked about them didn't know what I was talking about. Luckily the next one did and he had to go to the back room to get it. It was not displayed anywhere. I am using now to type this, it's been great for our 13yr old. Keep your ears open I am sure there will be similar deals this year.
