laptop - dumb questions!

I am now the owner of a brand new laptop, supposedly for DD to take to university but I'm hanging on to it for a couple of weeks to get to know what it does before letting her loose on it!

Being new to laptops, I have a couple of questions which are probably very dumb but I'm hoping you'll take pity on me and help me out here:

1. Can we use the DVD player in the laptop to watch DVDs on the move, or will the possible jolting in a car damage either the DVD or the laptop DVD drive?

2. Are CDs re-usabel? The laptop has a CDRW, but I'm wondering whether it's possible to 'wipe' an old CD blank and then write to it again (spotting a potential use for the thousands of free ones in magazines, etc.! ).

2. Nope. Great idea but its not possible.

Pixie Powers right. DS uses our laptop to watch DVD movies on the move in the car etc. and the movement/jolting doesn't affect it at all.

I wish you could wipe those old CD's too

There are basically two types of CD's you can buy - CD-R (R=Recordable - ie the cheaper ones) which can only be used the once, and CD-RW (RW=Re-Writable - a bit more expensive) which are re-usable
