Laptop at OKW problem

Hi Everyone:
I have and I am again taking my laptop on vacation for our stay at OKW. I have taken it the last two trips. However, I do have one problem that I'm wondering if anyone else has had. I have to go through technical support everything I go to go on to the Internet. I don't know if it has anything to do with my particular security program, but I have to call technical support and they do something on their end and then I can go on. However, the minute I shut down, I can't get back on without going through Technical Support.
 
I can report that I do not have to contact Disney IT whenever I want to get online and that has included a stay at OKW. I have had to contact them when there were port problems (wiring) and they have sent someone out to fix. Once that was done there were no problems.
 
I didn't have any problems at THV or BWV this year, but had to call when we got to BCV. They talked me through changing a setting on my laptop that made the connection work.

My laptop had been set to automatically detect the speed and duplex settings of the network. They had me change it to a manual setting.

I just had to do that once, though, not every time I turned the laptop on. Of course, when I was ready to check out, I had to remember what they had me change so I could put it back on automatic.

Yes, they have had me change a setting as well. But, I still had to call every day and have them set something before I could get on. I'm hoping this time, I may be able to do it once, but I'm doubtful.
 

I also had a problem at OKW last December. :headache: I was on the phone with tech support for about 2 1/2 hours over two nights and they could not help me. They told me that it was probably because I was running Windows Vista and it wasn't working on their network.

I'm headed to AKV-Kidani, then BLT in December this year and I just bought a netbook with Verizon Broadband service so that I don't have to mess with the Disney network. I like to get online when I want to, without having to ask for help.

No problems at several OKW stays and also no problems at AKV (Jambo), BCV or All Star Sports over the past couple of years. I have my own router in my Owners Locker. Been using Vista since last Sept.
 
We had to call at BLT for our internet to work. We never shut the laptop off, so didn't have the problem again.:lmao:
 
We have used 3 different computers at BWV, BCV, SSR, OKW, and VWL.

The only issues that we have had is that some laptops require that you turn off the wireless connection to used the wired connection. The other issue is that the network will time out and log you off. The fix for this is to set Outlook to check for new mail every 3 minutes, and keep Outlook running.

We will be staying at AKV and BLT in December and I assume that the service will be similar.
 
During our visit to VWL I took my then new laptop with Vista and had to spend about an hour on the phone with IT and he also said it was a Vista issue. I had to call back the second time I got on but had no problem after that. We went to OKW this past April and my laptop automatically detected the server. Hopefully you can get someone who can help you on day one sort through those problems!
 
Thanks for the replies and then did say it was because I had Vista so hopefully something has changed since our last trip in October and we won't have to call daily.
