Lanyards?

Ok this may seem silly, but what exactly is a lanyard? I know they are a wristband of sorts but is there something special to the ones that people are winning in YOAMD? TIA...

It is something you wear around your neck that usually has some form of plastic pouch at the end where you can keep your KTTW card or something like that.

If you have been to a convention or something like that, you have seen them. It is what vendors sometimes wear around their neck with their company's name and their name.

I am not sure I am giving a good explanation.

Look at my siggy picture. A lanyard is what is hanging around my neck. I have a plastic pocket on it to hold my room key, tickets, credit card etc... You can also put pins on it.

They are giving away special ones for The Year of a Million Dreams-- a special design you can only get from them I think.

If you book a Disney vacation package the resort where you stay usually provides lanyards for each person in your party and they usually include a pin or two to start your collection. We usually get pins to commemorate our year's visit. So if we do, say the HDDR, we but a pin at the trading post that is of the HDDR.

That explains why we have never gotten one. We do not usually book packages....I worked at AAA and went through the Disney College of Knowledge and we have always booked our room and then purchased our tickets for 10 days with the no expirations option so we can use them for about 3 quick trips. But I do believe I am going to have to look into getting one....

You sure about the resort providing lanyards? I have booked packages and have never received free lanyards or pins as far as that goes. Are you a AP holder or a VC member?

I have had a package several times and they are not giving out lanyards anymore. Several years ago they would provide one free lanyard and pin trading set per room, but they haven't done that in at least a year or 2.

A lanyard is something that you wear around your neck and at the bottom there is a plastic pouch to put your ticket and other stuff as well. Disney also has pins you can buy to decorate your lanyard and there is also pin trading, but that's another topic.

Dumb question - but where can I get the plastic pouch for the Lanyard? I did win a Year of a Million Dreams one in January and I will be taking it on our vacation in December. Thanks!

Never a dumb question! I actually just bought mine at WDW in the resort gift shop. I think it was less than $5. I have used it for 2 trips and think I will need to replace it this year. They do tend to tear down the sides after numerous uses, and mine gets a lot of use!

You could also look for them at Office Supply stores or any "tourist" type places near you that might have lanyards and such. But I like my WDW one since it has Mickey on it! They also sell other attachments like clips, key rings, and water bottle holders. By Disney standards, they are pretty reasonably priced.

Just thought I'd add this little bit of info... if you purchase a lanyard at WDW you can ask for a replacement plastic pouch and they will give you one free. Doesn't have to be at the same place of purchase. We were just there and my 9 yr. old had to tug on his and fiddle, so buy about the 6th day of use we had to get a new pouch. That's when we were told we could get a replacement pouch where ever the lanyards we sold
