Lanyards, phones, oh my!

Well I was hoping for magicbands by our trip, but with 4 weeks to go and no word from Disney it doesn't look hopeful.

In the past we would receive our physical tickets in the mail, and once we were scanned in, everything in the app (Maxpass) was linked. We got lanyards and liked scanning the tickets over pulling out the phone.

Now I don't have physical tickets. I am told Disney will give us paper tickets when we arrive on our first day. Are those paper tickets linked the same way as they were in the past? We can scan then for lighting lane?

Do folks use lanyards still or does everyone just use the phone? If it was just me, I'd use the phone but we might be splitting up sometimes. My husband isn't savvy like me with the Disney app so it's just been easier for me to do all thing app things. But I'll log into my account on his phone if needed..

Yes you can. I didn't see many ppl wearing lanyards on our trip but that doesn't mean you can't use one. I put my paper ticket on my phone case for safe keeping.

We use badge reels or lanyards to hold our paper Magic Keys (the one upside of getting them at a ticket booth rather than online) for park entry and for food/merchandise discounts.

They still work for LL entry, but if you have multiple people it's much easier to pull up all of them on the phone and use the swipe technique to do everyone's at once -- just keep your phone in the scanner while you do a green light/swipe left until all of them are scanned.

Also, If you end up with multiple experience passes in addition to an attraction-specific LL, using the phone lets you confirm that you're using the "right" LL at any given time -- I'm always afraid that if I just use my ticket it will use up the wrong LL.

99% sure it's the exact same bar code for every LL. For example, when you scan a MEP on an attraction you have a LL for later, it uses up the LL and not the MEP. Even when the LL is not supposed to be valid yet.

Oh this is a good question because I too was wondering if paper tickets would still work for lightning lanes, like they did for Maxpass. My suggestion would be to use retractable badge ID holders, that’s what my whole family used in Feb 2020, and it made scanning everyone in a breeze. They all had them clipped to their backpack or pants and just pulled the ticket up to scan it one by one, then they could let go and it snapped back down. Easy peasy. I liked not having to use just my phone for everyone!

We didn’t have genie+ for our last trip since it wasn’t released yet but I only used my phone. I just screenshot my husbands ticket and he had no problem getting in with that.
