I am gathering up information for a friend of mine who will be visiting WDW for the first time this August with his wife, and three kids DS9, DS7, DD5.

When *my* wife and I have gone to the parks, we've always had those lanyards with the ziplock holders for easy access to our KTTW cards. We used them all the time for magical wishes, park admission, room charges, fastpasses, etc.

My question is this: He's okay with getting the lanyards and pouches for him and his DW, however do you think kids of that age would be a problem having their own KTTW card?

I mean, what happens if they're on the way to the parks and have left their hotel already and one of the kids decides to throw the KTTW card off of the monorail platform and can't get it back. What do the people at the parks do? I know you can restrict charge access to certain cards, however what would happen if they showed up at the park and his DD5 was missing her KTTW card.

I guess in short, I want to maximize accessibility to these cards, but not put them in a situation where they might get lost.

Advice?

I carry my kids kttw cards and their park passes. They do not need to have them in their possession as they are always with me or DH.

We have always required DS (just turned 7) to wear his at all times when we are not in our rooms. It is only a resort ID-only version, it won't open the hotel room, it does not include his hopper pass, and it cannot be used for charges. The card is in a pouch on a breakaway lanyard that we have him wear under his shirt. He has worn this for every WDW trip since he was 18 months old.

That KTTW is his safety ID. In case of emergency, CM's can use the card to access our guest info and locate us. (We put our cell # on it with a Sharpie, too.) Our rule is that if he isn't wearing it, we have to stay in our room. If we are out and it goes missing, we have to go straight back to our room no matter where we are or what we are doing. We are EXTREMELY serious about this, and he knows it. I have hauled him out of the park for the offense of taking it off and stashing it in my backpack.

If a card like this is lost, it is very easy to replace; you just have to show real ID at the resort desk. I should also say that they won't stop a young child from entering the park for EMH if he's with his parents who have KTTW cards.

So if the card is a resort-id-only card, what do you do about the park hoppers and fast passes? Would the parents feed their card into the fastpass machine 5 times?

I know when I tried to do it more than once it would give me a ticket saying a fastpass already exists or something.

My girls are 7 and 9 and I carry all the room key cards and park passes with me. They have a id card they keep in a pockent with my cellphone etc.

Since we don't separate I just give them the park passes for admission, we enter one at a time and then I take them all back. For a FP I put all the park passes in the FP machine one at a time and then I hold the FP until the ride time and just hand them to the CM.

I guess when they are old enough to separate and do a few things by themselves then they will also be responsible enough to carry a room key and park pass.

Just to clarify - not all room keys are KTTW, some are just a room key, some are a room key with charging privlidges and some do have the park pass, making them a true KTTW.

StuartMI, each person (over the age of 3) needs a pass of some sort (Unlimited Park Hopper on the room key(KTTW), Parkhopper, Annual Pass, etc) to get entry into the park. This is the pass that must be used to get a fastpass. So you must enter each pass into a fastpass machine to get each person a fastpass.

One pass will never give you more than one fastpass out of a single machine at one time. Each person must have a valid park pass to get a fastpass.

The resort-id-only card is separate from the park pass card, which a responsible adult may carry for the child. That way, the adult can get the FP's for the children, feeding in their passes one at a time. (A child under 3 doesn't need a park pass, of course.)
