Lanyards for kids?

When on ship do the kids need to keep their cards with them? What about to enter the kids clubs? Trying to figure out if we need to get lanyards for them or not for their cards. I’m assuming we will need our cards with us at all times as room keys but hopefully the kids won’t need them.
Thank you!

Kids get a wristband to enter and exit the kids clubs. They can be taken off outside the club but must remain on while in the club (they ziptie them on basically). DS (7) never had his card with him. I carried it everywhere. When he is older and allowed out on his own (11ish), I'd probably let him carry the card but right now he only needs it to get on and off the ship and has no charging privileges.

I didn't even wear my lanyard this time, instead I carried everything in a mini-purse that held our cards and my phone or a slightly bigger bag when we were going to the pool for awhile and I wanted my mini-safe and/or craft activity.

The only reason a child might need one is to independently unlock the stateroom door.

Unlocking the door was a BIG thing to my kids, so they wore lanyards. We were first time cruisers so we didn't get them from DCL. I just bought a 3 pack from amazon for $7. We hung them (along with their masks) from magnetic hooks on the back of the stateroom door.

If the kid is old enough for edge or vibe, those clubs use a sticker on the key card to get in instead of wristbands, so they'll want a lanyard.

You're Silver on your first cruise.

We (DS and I) did not get lanyards on our cruise in 2019 (although this may have changed since then). My MIL/FIL and several other people were already silver (including DH) so MIL/FIL just brought extras for the few of us that were not.

Actually you’re silver AFTER your first cruise. First time cruisers do not get lanyards.

If you’re DVC, you can get lanyards by visiting the DVC kiosk. At least that’s how we got first cruise lanyards. Also, you can get a gift each day by visiting them.

Everyone needs their keycard to get off and on the ship.
Each card has to be tapped one at a time.
The adult in the cabin needs to tap first.
Everyone 18 and older need a government issued (driver’s license) every time the get off and on the ship.

We kept my daughter's card with us when she was little - her band was sufficient for the kids club, and she didn't need to open the stateroom door, get on/off the ship, or purchase anything on her own because she was either in secured programming or with us.

Since she turned 8 and has earned more freedom around the ship, she does keep her card in a lanyard.

First-time cruisers do need to bring their own lanyard.

I read that if you have the photo package, if your kids have their KTTW cards on them while playing at the kids club, the photographers will scan their cards and add those photos to your package automatically for you. I plan on giving my little ones bracelets with their cards attached, as they would not enjoy wearing lanyards all day.

I have never heard of that - are you sure this occurred on a Disney Cruise? The Shutters photographers do not accompany the characters when they stop by the Club/Lab. Though I know that on rare occasion the Club/Lab staff will take a picture and print it to send with the kids that day, we've never once received a picture of my child in the Club/Lab.

Also, the KTTW card doesn't have a hole to put it on a bracelet, plus they'll be wearing their Mickey Bands for the Club so no need for anything more.
