Lanyards ~ Best Kind? Where To Buy?

We'll be making our first trip to Disney in Apr. 09. I just bought some pins and would like to give them to my kids for Christmas on a lanyard to start their collections for trading. I'm wondering what the best kind is to get and where to buy them. Is there a style that is more popular in the park? I've seen a couple of different kinds of lanyards, some have the plastic thing at the bottom (what is this for? tickets? fastpasses? I'm clueless..), some have medallions... We'll be on the DP, and I was wondering if everyone has to show their card for that. We'll be staying a the Poly, do they sell them there? I'm just full of questions. Thanks!

You can find lots of disney lanyards on ebay- alot cheaper than in the parks.
We like to get the ones with the clear pocket hanging from the bottom then you can keep your fast passes and your ticket/room card. If your going to EMH these will be very handy to show your card since they have discontinued the wrist bands.
Only one person will need to show the card for the DP, the meals for your family are all tied together.

You can also buy lots of pins on ebay to get started with pin trading!

We stayed at the Poly recently, and that is where DS8 started his pin trading hobby. There is a pin store on the second floor of the Grand Ceremonial House, and lots of cool pirate stuff. His lanyard is black with skull and crossbones all over it. He is into pirates, and it is one of the few lanyards I have seen that doesn't look girly or nerdy, so he was happy with that.

If I wasn't going to be pin trading myself, should I still get a lanyard for holding the tickets/fastpasses? Or do most people carry their tickets/passes in their bags that they're carrying.. baggalini/overland/fannypack etc.....? Just wondering what works best and is most convenient..

I have bought lanyards in the parks/resorts, but depending on what you are looking for, you may want to look at Claire's at your local mall.

Last year we had a grand gathering planned and I wanted to get DD10 and DNiece9 theirs ahead of time, but when we were at WDW a few months before I couldn't find anything that I REALLY knew they would love.

DD and I were shopping at the mall one day and she wanted to go into Claire's. They had HSM, HM, Cheetah Girls, Hairspray (Zac Efron was all over it), and a few other lanyards. I picked up HSM and Cheetah Girls laynards because I knew those would be the ones the girls would absolutely love. I never saw those lanyards at WDW (and they were a bit cheaper then at the ones at the parks) even when we were there for our GG. The girls really liked them and a few people asked where we had gotten them when we were at WDW.

I bought a hanna montanna one from clairs for $1 on a ten for ten deal. reg price is $6. Hopefully I can fit all three cards in one !
