Lanyards and Pins

I just returned from a trip and noticed very few people with lanyards and pins. When did that happen? I do not recall noticing that the last time we went in 2022. All of my pins have a special meaning to me or commemorate an event and I love wearing them, but it was starting to feel weird since nobody else was wearing their pins.

Pin trading was stopped and then greatly restricted post 2020 re-opening. It was only very recently that CMs began wearing their pin trading lanyards and pouches. I would anticipate that has something to do with it.

Also, like all things, what is 'popular' ebbs and flows. Given the additional charges at WDW (Genie+, ILL$, etc.) it could be guests just do not have as much extra $ to invest in pin trading.

Personally, I also find they can get heavy and hot. We tend to wear ours more during trips with cooler weather and less on summer trips.

I like to own some pins but like scrapping says wearing a landyard is a huge burden and pins could be easy to lose. I may occasionally put one on my fanny pack or something like that, but mostly i just have one in my pocket i may consider swapping.
I just display them on the lanyards hung over my dresser and take them down and stare at them from time to time lol.
In our family as kids (or an adult) grew up they would get a ride pin if they went on a more thrilling ride for the first time. And i love to get one for new resorts i stay at. Also like first time at an event pin,like christmas party, or like when we went on the 4th muppet pin.
Kids had/have special collections and usually now just stick a swapper or two in their pocket as they search for their missing piece.
