Alrighty. We haven't been to a Disney park in a few years. The last time we went, we each had various cards we needed for various reasons, and we needed a place to keep Fastpasses, so we each had a lanyard with a card holder. The lanyard was then used for holding pins we wanted to trade.

Am I right that there are no longer Key to the World cards, and then with the new FP+ system... there's really no need for a card holder any more? Particularly for the kids?

If yes, then I'm considering making them something to hold pins they want to trade, but am not really sure what would be best. Would a lanyard still be best? Or some sort of small cross-body pouch? If you don't wear a lanyard, how on earth do you show off your pins??

It is not absolutely essential to have a card holder hanging at the end of the lanyard. I think the main purpose of the lanyard now is for pin display and, visually, it seems to be the most attractive way to show off nice pins. I've seen some people wear messenger-type cloth bags where the pins are attached to the flap of the bag but the whole thing appears overly bulky and not nearly as attractive as the lanyard. If you want something to hang on the end of the lanyard, try the large clip-ons. I have a heavy-weight Mickey (steam-boat style) that clips to the end of my lanyard. It's looks great and have had many compliments on it.

They are in a testing phase of handing out paper return passes for some attractions. This could change at any time, but if it is something you would take advantage of, then you would have tickets to carry around. That is the only thing I can think of that would require a lanyard if you would even want to use it for that.

That wouldn't fit. There was a picture of it somewhere on another thread but not at my fingertips. The plastic holder at the end of the lanyard holds things much smaller. OP I would just use the lanyards you have either remove the plastic or put a Mickey sticker in it or something :thumbsup2 Like a PP said it still is the nicest way to display the pins.

I have a hip pouch for my pins. I got it off ebay. It is very similar to what cms wear (in fact I think it might be the exact thing, it does have a disney tag). It attaches to a belt loop and holds 10-15 pins.

I don't wear my lanyard and pins.....have lost too many.
I carry them in a bag with all my other things.

I attach the ones I want to show off to the pocket of my backpack with the locking backs. The ones I want to trade I keep in a Ziploc bag in my backpack.

I have a little zipper pouch with two compartments. One is for trades, one is for keeping. I've both lost and found pins throughout the parks, so i have no desire to display them.

I carry the pins that DS wants to trade in a bag in my purse. He has lost them before due to the back coming off. We tried the screw on locking backs and they weren't any better. However, he does display his pins on several lanyards hanging in his bedroom. He likes to pick out a new lanyard every trip.

I am at Disney and just bought the locking pin backs. Does anyone have any idea how to use those?

We're staying at Shades of Green, but this would be true of any offsite resort as well: you end up with an RFID enabled card that is just like the old KTTW cards. So we'll still be using the lanyards as before, as well as for pin trading!

We made our own lanyards this year, for our LARGE pin collections we like to display. I made them very simple. I got 3 different ribbons in descending widths and the proper length wanted. I used three different colors, you can use more or less for aesthetics. Then I layered them one on top of the other and put it through the sewing machine. one single line down the center, then tucked and finished the edges nicely. I use a pin with a LOCKING BACK to hold it together.

All my pins have locking backs, we use two kinds, one with the tiny allen wrench and one with a pull button/pressure release. hard to explain but faster than the allen wrench ones.

We fly to florida tonight so I hope to post some pics of the lanyards once we get there ! :cloud9:

happy crafting :thumbsup2

not sure what type you have, but there are some with a tiny allen wrench and a tiny screw. and also some that you press/pull to inflict or release pressure on the pin stud to put it on and remove it.
