Lanyard choices for my DD and DS?

Okay, my kids love to collect ANYTHING. Even the rocks from my driveway. So, I stocked up on some pins for my kids to trade while we are with The Mouse in December. I have about 6 pins each for them to start with, but no lanyard. I plan to give them their pins in the little "kits" they'll receive on the plane. (They don't know we're going and we're waiting until we're on our way to tell.)

I haven't been in 8 years, before the pin craze broke out. I would like to give the kids their pins ON lanyards. I understand that some have a card that hangs from them, some have characters on them, some are simply a solid color.

My friend leaves for Disney on Tuesday. I thought of asking her to grab us lanyards, so I can put them together for the kids b/f we get there.

Does anyone know if specific styles are pictured anywhere online? Can anyone recommend a style for my DD7 (loves Princesses) and DS5 (loves Cars, Mickey, Toy Story) or just explain to me what differences there are in them?

Thanks so much!

I bought my kids' their lanyards ahead of time here:

http://stores.ebay.com/Your-WDW-Store

It's an ebay store, but they have tons of Disney-related things. Lots of lanyards. It would be a good place to look at the different styles even if you still have your friend pick up the lanyards in WDW. I don't know if she has all the styles or if some are discontinued ones, etc, but we found the selection great. She shipped quickly too, and I had no problems. :thumbsup2

Thank you for that! I tried to search eBay, but SOOO much comes up when you search lanyard (including the lanyard pins).

One more questions... how much do they usually cost in the park?

Thanks again!

I've seen starter lanyards at the parks of cars, toy story, and princesses. They are very nice since they come with 4 pins. 2 different pins to keep and 2 identical ones to trade.

I think I saw somewhere that they're about $9-12 in the parks (without pins), and $26 for the starter kits with pins. We have not been there yet though, so I'm not an expert! Basically, the ebay site was compatable...not a discount, but about the same. The only ones I saw on ebay for significantly less were ones my kids called "boring"--either plain colors or promotional-type ones that just said "Christmas in Epcot" or things like that. My kids wanted to pick out character ones.

Maybe I should wait and let the kids pick theirs out? I just thought they'd think it was a thrill to open their box on the plane that contained the letter from Santa, the pins (on a lanyard) and the other Disney goodies I've gotten.

We plan to go directly to Main Street upon checking in, so getting the lanyards and their autograph books could be first to do on our list. Do you think flying with a bag of pins would cause a problem at security?

I was actually wondering about the problems with travelling with your pins when I read your posting! But, I don't have an answer - Sorry!

I do have a question, do you need something like a lanyard to hold your room key / ticket / fast pass in?

I didn't even think of using the lanyard for holding our room key... Do the room keys have holes in them to be put ON the lanyard?

Also, can anyone tell me the difference b/n some of the lanyards on eBay that don't have anything on the end but a clip? (What do you do with that clip- is that meant for a room key????)

I suppose I should call the airline about bringing the pins on the plane.

if you go to disneys official pin trading site you can look at accessories (sp) and they have pics of the starter kits as well. I always like the starters cause not only do you have duplicate pins (giving you 2 to trade-guilt free cause you have 2) but those pins are not sold individually so you already have pins that are semi limited. One thing I know is I only found 1 lanyard with a plastic holder for room keys and stuff and it was at FW, then I never found one again. I have been looking for 2 years (or 4 trips to wdw) So if ANYONE knows how to get one of them I desperately. and good luck with your kids and their first trading experience-remember it's fun. Somepeople can take this pin thing too seriously. ...t.

Thank you for your help! I'm not sure if my kids will want to trade away any of the pins I've gotten for them, so the duplicates would be good!
