Oh my god. So I was watching some snippets of X Factor, which plays in the UK. Well this kid comes in and his name is Eoghan Quigg. I'm reading this as "eu-ghan quig".
No. Apparently it's pronounced "Owen". :confused3

Which got me thinking - which language, written or spoken, confuses you the most?

Anything Celtic, Welsh, or Chinese/Japanese will confuse the hell out of me. Especially Celtic and Welsh, those sound like alien languages to me.

I'm used to Gaelic (Celtic-like) sort of. They sing it a lot in Celtic Thunder songs. I don't know what they mean though.

Welsh confuses me a lot, too. xD

All languages confuse me. They sound like a jumble of not-words. That's why I'm so looking forward to learning French.

GAELIC! Thank you Allison, that's the one I was looking for! I don't even think "Celtic" is the right terminology...

Galiec, celtic. Same thing. Irish language. :p
"A Thiarna, déan trócaire (Lord have mercy)
A Chríost, déan trócaire (Christ have mercy)
A Thiarna, déan trócaire (Lord have mercy)
A Chríost, déan trócaire (Christ have mercy)"
Galeic is a fun language to talk in but I never have any clue what I'm saying. ;)

To be honest, in my mind, languages like German, Dutch and Swedish (there's probably a few other languages to add to that list) all sound the same. They make weird noises with the c's, and other letters and I can't make them.
My friend was trying to teach me how to say a town in the Netherlands name today, and I failed.

Japanese and Chinese.

It all just sounds like a bunch of random babbling to me. And then, you can't even attempt to try and 'sound out' the words, because you can't read the words! Their words look like a person was having fun drawing a bunch of fancy-looking squiggly lines on a piece of paper! :headache:

From the only 3 languages I know, yiddish.
I don't speak it, but I can pick up a few words from my mom, grandpa, and grandma.
They're all fluent in it, and say little phrases here and there around my house.
The language and speaking it, confuses me a lot!
I tried to learn the prayer for the dead, and well..that didnt go well, haha.

thats why they made romanji. with roman letters. so that we'd be able to sound out japanese words.

but japanese is entirely too confusing. they..they have a word that represents a question mark, mkay?

Since I speak both english and french, I find it a bit easier to wrap my head around how some languages work. (since i've spent countless classes going over the mechanics of french haha) I can pretty much understand the romantic languages and how they work (italian, spanish, portuguese) because they're all quite similar. I can understand how german works as well, the verb tenses and such are quite similar to french, and a lot of the word sounds like english (since we get a LOT of our words from german)
I don't know how to speak italian, spanish or german, but I can understand the basic stuff when I hear people speaking them...it's funny, once you learn one foreign language it's much easier to pick up on others.

eastern languages confuse me the most, chinese, japanese, and all the indian languages....TOTALLY make my eyes cross. I do not understand how they work at all!!
Also my mind is boggled by African languages....I have a friend who speaks...I'm not sure what language but it's one with the clicking sounds in it...it's so amazing to hear. I don't understand it at all!!! I don't understand how it works at all, it seems so complex

::yes::
I'm fluent in English and about 75% fluent in Spanish. But, with the Spanish I can understand some Italian, and I took 6 months of Portuguese and French too.
Because of knowing English so well, I'm very good with Dutch too - they are very similar. As is German, but I'm better with Dutch. I mean seriously, mouse and maus, house and haus, mine and mein. Pretty easy to me.

None.

I'm very adept at learning the base rules of various languages. I'm not easily tricked by them.

I don't even have much trouble with Gaelic.

I'll agree that knowing French helps me understand languages, mostly Spanish. I can't listen to it and understand it, they speak too fast, but I can definitely read it.
I stole my friend from Germany's book once xD
Idk why, he had a spanish book. He had a French one too.

I love languages. I suppose i just find them really easy to learn.:goodvibes

Languages don't necessarily confuse me, however there are those that i don't like or that i dislike. German for one, i find the language agressive almost.

@ Sian- German is such an angry language! Me and my friends shout DAS WORTERBUCH at each other sometimes because if you don't know what it means it sounds terrifying!

I struggle with all languages but welsh is just beyond xD

I can sing Silent Night in both Gaelic and German but thats about as far for me as those languages go... :goodvibes

I can get my way around Spanish if I have to and I'm ok at French, so the Romance Languages are pretty much all the same to me. But any lanugage that has a different looking alphabet just confuses me to no end...Like Icelandic (sp?) the letters just look so weird I can't wrap my head around it at all...:confused3
