Starting the hunt for snowpants- DD11's 10/12 from last year do not fit. So far we have only tried at Target, but as with a lot of places, their snowpants are sized 10/12 and 14/16- kind of a big range and she is more like a 12/14! 10/12 too tight and 14/16 way too long. The story of our pants shopping lives. She is not a stick, but not plus size either, just a little thicker than average.

Got a Lands End code today so I looked. Their Squall snowpants are $29.99 in limited colors. I am debating 12 regular, 14 regular, and 12 plus. Some of the reviews say they run big, making me think a regular could work and that a plus would be too big. But some say they are true to size, so who knows. They don't always state whether they are reviewing the slim, regular, or plus.

Checked the size chart and she is at the top limit of the regular 12 and the bottom limit of the plus 12. Size 14 regular looks good for weight but the height is 60-61 and she is 59". So it might work or they might drag.

So, do you have squall snow pants and in your opinion, when your kid is borderline, do you size up or down? Anybody have the plus size and do they run really plus or just a little?

We are in NC so snow gear does not get near as much use as other places and almost always gets handed down. Anyway, we have had quite a few lands end pieces of snow gear and they do tend to run a little bigger but we always do these type of clothing bigger anyway and always buy up so they last at least two seasons. I have found that the plus sizes in lands ends were really a lot larger and were way too big for my slightly thicker that average son when we was about your DD age. I would go with the 14/16.

We love Lands End snow pants and we always size up. I like to get two years out of them, so I would go with the 14. I believe the length can even be adjusted now.

If you have a Sears close by...I would get them all and have her try them on for fit, returning what doesn't work.

DS14 sized up to the husky sizes, even though they run large. They go over pants, which may have long underwear under them or be flannel lined. I will say DS is in no way still in kid sized clothes, but he is able to wear 18/20 1/2 sized snow pants because they're made wider and Land's End always runs large anyway.

DD has a has a solid, thick/long torso and last year I got her the LE size 8 plus. They weren't that huge and worked out fine. In Lands End I get a plus in t-shirts (so many are form fitting now) and leggings b/c she hates the feeling of tight elastic on her belly. I have also ordered her both regular & plus sizes in swim separates and LE can run really strange in the plus vs regular. This year a plus swim bottom was wider but had less coverage in the belly. I now order both sizes, compare them and return the one I don't want to a local Sears store. If you call customer service they can give you specific measurements for a regular and plus item, once they gave me a width and length of a skirt in both sizes when I was trying to figure out a size for an exchange.

Do you have a Sears with LE near you? You can return them in-store without having to pay shipping. Buy a few and try them out and return what doesn't fit.

My son just turned 11 and is a size 10 in pants at Old Navy and JC Penny. In fact, he's pretty skinny and size 10s are usually a little big in the waist. However his 10/12 Squall pants from the last two years are just going to be too tight this year. He could wear them but they just look tight. I sized him up when I had a 40% off coupon a few days ago. We just got them and they are pretty big but totally wearable for snow season. Mostly they are just LONG. That is an easy fix though once he put on his Flurry boots (which I also had to buy...he had a major growth spurt over the summer).

I've ALWAYS sized up the Land's end snow pants. It is easy to adjust them and we can get a couple years out of them that way.

I don't know if that is any help. I'd size up and just adjust them and get a couple years out of them.

So I just did a live chat online and got waist and length measurements on each of the 3 sizes! I can compare them to her last year pants which are actually at the consignment shop. I know I can return to Sears but it's not convenient (about 50 miles away). If these measurements give me a definitive answer, that will be all the better.

Too bad they only have coral pink left, but she said she didn't care. She doesn't have recess anymore, so she will only wear them at home, in the country. No one will care she doesn't coordinate ;)

Thanks for all the input! We don't have a lot of Lands End, but what we have had I do recall it runs fairly generous so hopefully this will be our answer. If she decides she needs more jeans I will check out the measurements on Lands End. So far for jeans last year's Kohl's SO 12 works, an older pair of Limited Too 12, and Old Navy 16 if I cut off a couple inches in length.
