Lands' End...quality gone downhill?

I just received an order today...some fleece half zip pullovers, and down vests. The quality seems to have gone WAY down since I first started buying Lands End...

The fleece feels really skimpy, and no pockets! And the pockets on the vest aren't even lined?! :confused3

I guess I expected more...

Anyone else?

I agree. IMO, their quality has really declined since Sears bought the company. :sad2:

I agree. I buy the mesh polos and the last ones I bought just don't seem to be as nice as what I used to get. Also the corduroy 7-day pants were a much thinner fabric. I hope Lands' End listens to all the complaints and does something about the quality of their clothes or they will lose a lot of customers.

It's 100% about the bottom line now, unfortunately. Bean seems to still have the quality.

Agree. I used to love LE and felt that you could count on the fit being consistent from item to item. Since Sears bought them the quality of materials on many items has gone down and the fit is all over the board. They still have some nice stuff, but you can't order from the catalogue with confidence anymore. :(

Every summer for years we've bought their Aqua Sneakers. My son goes through 2 pairs a year since he lives in them all summer. This year, he wore them for about 2 days and they were falling apart. They were cheap crappy plastic junk I won't be buying again. What a disappointment

And here I was thinking it was just me who didn't think their quality was what it used to be. Glad I wasn't going nuts. Well maybe I still am, but not about LE.

I've never been a Land's End customer for the most part, but recently I've bought a few things on line because they've had a good deal plus free shipping. Every bit of it I have had to take back. Especially the shoes. The quality is just not that good.

The only thing I've kept is a Long Torson Tankini that I bought last year. I can't say that the quality is any more outstanding that something I could have bought in a store but it did have a better fit. I have a hard time finding anything in the store that fits a long torso but they still carry these things.

Same here. I'd also noticed some really low prices in the catelog. I guess this is why. I can shop Old Navy for that type stuff.

LLBean was still very good last time I ordered. :)

I agree too, although we got my daughter a winter coat this year and it's really nice. But some of the other things I've gotten lately haven't been what I expected. Love LLBean.

I've stopped ordering also. Once they started heading towards more "modern" trendy clothes and fabrics and away from their classics, it seems like the fit and fabric on everything became thinner. As a plus size gal, I really don't need to layer thin clingy t-shirts.

There was a time when almost every thing they sold was US made. The knits, for example, were all made in North Carolina. I would have turtlenecks and polos in a dozen colors b/c I bought them at real factory outlets here. DH and I are still wearing the coats we've had for a million years and they're great -- not sure whether the ones being offered now are a good.

I just got an order from Lands End and was talking to my dh about it. I felt that the Drifter sweaters are much thinner than they used to be. They used to be much heftier and warmer. Not so much now. I can barely tell I have a sweater on. DH told me he thought it had been his imagination when he put on his new sweater.
Doubt we'll be buying much more from them. Sears has pretty much killed a really good product. Back to LLBean for us, even if it does cost more.

I am so glad I saw this thread as I was going to order some long sleeved shirts from there. I was expecting the quality to be very good based on things I've heard about them in the past. I'll look elsewhere now. :thumbsup2

I'm in the minority, cause I still love Land's End. I'd always been a Talbot's customer. But a couple of years ago, Land's End came out with Fit1, 2, and 3. Their Fit 1 stuff is less boxy than Talbot's. I love their long sleeved tshirts and turtlenecks!! The sleeves are long enough!!

Finally, I really like the combed cotton cardigans. A nice look for work or church. I have a couple of the argyle ones, and always have people ask me where I bought them.

I bought sport shorts from LE many years ago that were made in the US. They're made of some kind of material that's quick-drying and lightweight. They are so comfortable. I'm wearing one of them today! :thumbsup2

Anyway, they were expensive at the time, but I really wanted them. These shorts have held up so well. :thumbsup2 I've worn them so many times and they're still great! I looked through their web site to purchase more of them and I've not seen anything like them again. :sad2:

I've noticed this as well: Their quality went down pretty-much in lock-step with their relative prices.

I used to adore Land's End, but I was really disappointed last summer with some tops I bought for DDs. I could not believe how flimsy they were. I have always had good luck with their bathing suits (rash guards), though. I just placed an order for DD for Christmas, and I really hope it's o.k.
