Land/sea package advice

Book the two pieces separately. That will give you more flexibility. My understanding is you cannot take advantage of any WDW resort discounts if you book it together as a land and sea. For the WDW portion, I'd book that through the WDW website. For the cruise, I'd recommend using a travel agent. Some TAs offer onboard credit for booking with them. I use Dreams Unlimited to book my cruises. If you are a Costco member, they offer a Costco gift card that amounts to about 9% of the cruise fare for booking with them.

I would agree that there is no real benefit of booking your WDW stay through DCL. Book what you want at WDW with any discount codes or promos you can find and then just book your DCL cruise.

You can arrange DCL transfers from the resort to the ship or vice versa if you want it a seamless vacation but the transfers cost $35pp each way and there other options out there like renting a car or a town car service.

Whether you want to stay at WDW before or after your cruise is totally up to you...no right or wrong answer. Many people do like to book DCL after WDW as WDW is usually go, go go and they like to relax on the cruise after WDW. The choice is yours.
