After an afternoon at KSC, we were off to check-in to the AKL. At least, DH & self knew that -- the DSS was asleep in the back seat of the rental, happy to believe he was going to get to swim in a motel pool.
Pulling up to the AKL was impressive. I've been to South Africa many years ago, and was very pleasantly surprised that I would be able to share a virtually authentic African experience with the DH & DSS. The lad woke up just before we reached the resort, so we told him we just wanted to take a look. But when the security guard checked us in ('Have a wonderful stay, Mr. W."), we couldn't fool the DSS any more. He was thrilled!! One of the great magical moments of our trip was the smile that lit up that face at that moment . Followed closely by the moment he saw the animals and the pool.
Checked into standard room 3027, on the Giraffe Trail. Quiet room, with a view of the thatch over-hanging the walking path to the parking lot. Little matter! There were plenty of opportunities to see animals in cozy viewing areas around the resort. The AKL really is amazing. It's almost impossible to describe -- you have to go there.
DSS went swimming, we all wandered around checking out the hotel, we changed and then headed to MK for the evening. Our first and only mistake of the trip.
MK was a zoo (unlike the AKL and AK, which is Nah-ta-zu!). We had paid for the extra day's admission to see Spectromagic -- great parade, but I wouldn't spend the $$'s for only that reason again. We did get to ride BTMRR twice with fastpass -- but I'd have rather stayed at the hotel & just soaked up the ambiance.
Arrived back at the hotel around midnight, & were still able to take a quick dip in the pool & hot-tub. To bed by 1:00 a.m. -- a frightening start to a holiday where we were determined to be up early!
Next -- the AK and on to the Poly.
