Laminate Wood Floors... tell me about them!

So, we are house hunting (for the first time) and we think that we have found our "dream house"!!! :woohoo: We can see ourselves in it and love it, but we are concerned about one thing.

EVERY room has laminate wood floors (Pergo) except the kitchen and bathroom (they are tiled).

I've always dreamed of that "NYC" or "Chicago" apartment look, with that wood floor look, but we are in Michigan, and it is COLD in the winter. I understand that we can and will buy large area rugs (and slippers!), but I still wonder if the floors really makes the rooms as cold as people have suggested they will. (Comments made by homeowners of carpeted homes ;).)

So, if you have them, tell me about them! (And wish us luck on the house!!! :thumbsup2)

We have Pergo in hallways, LR & DR. I love it!! Its the easiest thing to keep clean and it looks great. I don't find it cold but I don't go bare foot when the heat is on :) I've had carpet, hardwood, ceramic tile, stone tile and vinyl - Pergo is the easiest to maintain of all.

I want it in my kitchen but hesitate because of spills...occasional minor spills not noticed immediately in the LR swelled up the Pergo but it went down eventually to where its not really noticable. I haven't had any ruined yet and we've had it about 3 years.

Enjoy it!

:thumbsup2 Awesome, thanks! While I've got you here ;), can you tell me if they scratch easy, and what you use to clean them?

I hate carpet, we destroy it.:lmao:

I do have 2 dogs though and I have heard that Pergo holds up to dog claws. So that is good.

I have had a cheap laminate floor before and the dogs nails ruined it.

I can relate with the muddy paw prints. We are having a patio done in the back. Mud....eh!:headache:

They don't scratch. My parents installed it on their main floor 7-8 years ago and it still looks brand new. It is in their kitchen and my dad is very hard on flooring and there isn't a mark on it. The vinyl flooring they removed had holes, tears, scratches and burn marks, just to give you an idea of my dad's culinary "talents"! ;)

ETA: My parents have 2 dogs also and mine have visited, still no scratches. They are all smaller dogs though, don't know if you had a St. Bernard if that would make a difference.

MIL has them they are real noisy. Click Clack Click Clack AGHHHH

Very nice, just very loud when on the second floor (children's play room).

I've had Pergo in my kitchen, dining room, family room for 10 years. I love it. Easy to clean, doesn't scratch. The only problem we had was an extremely heavy entertainment system did dent the floor slightly.

We have felt pads on the bottom of chairs and other furniture with legs, and those easy move disks under the heavy tv cabinet (we had hardwood in our last house and got scratches before we did that). We get sand inside and when I kick or push a plastic laundry basket out of the way it sounds bad but no scratches yet :) I use swiffer, dust buster, broom, wet paper towel as needed and shark steam clean with plain water every couple weeks. Easy! My husband cleans it with a machine he uses - a combo machine for hard floor surfaces - I never learned how to operate it :thumbsup2 and he adds a tiny amount of Bissell floor cleaner to the water. I don't think the floors are louder than tile or hardwood really. We have the Pergo with the underlay that came attached. Good stuff!
