Lakers at Disneyland

I thought it was AWESOME! I don't think crowdwise it is any different than the "normal" Disney parades that crowd MainStreet and the fireworks at night when people are sitting in front of the castle.

I do think it was more than the usual parade crowd. Judging by the people that started lining the parade route in Laker jerseys at 8AM, I'm guessing most of them only came to the park because of the parade.

I agree it would be exciting to see if you are a Laker fan. As a fan of sports I can imagine the excitement of seeing a parade for your team after they just won...I saw the excitement of the crowd that day. I just don't think it was necessary to have a parade at DL (in addition to the parade the Lakers had the day before through LA). As you said, "crowds are a part of amusement vacations"....I don't think they need to make it worse by drawing more people to the park for something that could have been done somewhere else.

Sounds to me someone here is a Orlando Magic fan hehe j/k .

I think the parade was appropriate in that there was a small friendly wager between Disneyland and Walt Disney World and to celebrate the Lakers championship. If the Orlando Magic would have won the championship there would have been a parade in WDW. Also remember Disneys theme is " What will you celebrate?".

Plus as you say some ppl might have just shown up just to see the parade, I am sure Disneyland made a little extra cash as a result.

BTW here is a link to the wager between DL and WDW for those that didnt know.

We are from out of state, but the funny thing was watching the LA news the couple days after the Lakers won the title. Fans were complaining that the taxpayers had to split the cost of the Laker Victory parade with the team (not the Disney parade, but the parade through the city). It probably worked out to pennies per person...fans of other teams would gladly pay that to have a victory paraded for their team. Are Laker fans just spoiled?

Laker fans spoiled? Probably ;)

But since Los Angeles (not to mention the entire state of California) is in the midst of a financial crisis of monumental proportion, and many city/state workers are facing layoffs or forced furloughs, I don't know that I consider the outcry regarding spending $1,000,000+ in taxpayer funds for a 3 hour celebration/parade spoiled.
:confused3

In the end I believe the Laker organization and a few big money donors came up with enough $$$ that tax payer expense was minimal though.

I think it was nice that Kobe came to Disneyland and shared the victory with the park and everyone there. Alot of people us including wouldn't have made it to LA for that parade anyway so it was a neat experience. I'm wondering if this was something other than the Lakers and Kobe but some other star that you perhaps liked, if it would be so irritating to you then, LOL:rotfl2:
Gosh, the parade didn't last long at all. The only thing you had to endure is getting around the people waiting for the parade to begin. That is no different than when they block off everything on Main Street or anywhere else for the other parades in Disneyland. Too funny:laughing:

Seeing how the parade only lasted a little while and then while Kobe spoke, if you are right that most of the LA fans showed up just for the parade, then they would have left and you still had the whole day and night to enjoy the parks without anyone getting in your way, LOL so I'm really not sure why it was such a big bother for only a short amount of time. I'm sorry but this is just too dang funny:rotfl:

I was there- we were there for breakfast at Carnation Cafe, and had planned on leaving to go to DCA that day- I have some pics of the crowds, and the tv cameras setting up, etc.... I would have like to have watched the parade too- but the people we were traveling with are diehard Portland TrailBlazer fans- so the parade was out of the question,lol.... on the other hand though- it made it a light crowd at DCA when it opened at 10am... :)

As I said, the only real nuicance for us was we got stuck trying to exit DL to go to DCA as the exact time the parade was ending (as all those people who only came for the parade were also exiting). It wasn't a major issue, just a minor complaint that I could have done without. Guess it was wrong place, wrong time. Had I know about the parade earlier, I would have headed to DCA about 9:30.
