Lakers at Disneyland

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i wanna be home so bad! the two things i love the most Disneyland and the Lakers!!!!:cool1: Lucky everybody thats gonna be there

Ha, hopefully DL steps up security. Don't want the horse trolly to get flipped over or the candy shop to get looted.

But seriously, whatever happened to the whole "I'm going to Disneyland" spiel?

I thought they only said that after the Super Bowl. I don't remember them saying that after the NBA Finals.

Didn't want to go to LA today for the parade and rally, simply because I knew it would be insanely crowded. I'm assuming Disneyland is a more controlled environment, so I'll try to show up tomorrow morning. It's times like this I'm especially glad I have an AP.

A co-worker of mine is a huge Laker fan. He found a way to take the morning off and went up to the parade. He managed to get right in the thick of it all, got some great photos, got really close to everyone he wanted to see, and was just so very excited about it. It was fun to see his excitement over it all.

I have friends that work in downtown LA that commute on metrolink. They said that their 5am train from OC to Downtown LA was packed and people were standing. My cousins actually went to the Coliseum and got seats. They were up VERY early to make sure they had a spot in line to get in.

As for the Disneyland parade, I only found it on a few sites and its not on the team website. Apparently they want to keep this a bit low key considering what happened in LA and they don't want the hoards of people like in Downtown. I am assuming this may also have to deal with the bet the Presidents of WDW and DL had going on.

I posted another thread about the Disneyland parade, but...
The article said that Kobe Bryant had made a commitment to appear and other Lakers were still being coordinated. My guess - and it is purely that - is they "inked" Kobe so they could announce it and have been working on seeing what the other players are doing. Not so sure if it's an intentional key low thing or more just an issue of pulling appearances together as quickly as possible.

Yeah, I saw the story yesterday and posted it this morning. I just saw your post this afternoon.

Trust me when I say that the DL PR team had this idea floating when the Lakers went to the playoffs. Even better since they played Orlando so they had one park against the other. The parade was intentional but since they weren't sure what team would win or when they would clinch the title, they couldn't make final committments. Kobe is obvious since he's an OC resident and his kids are fans of DL. I dont know where the other players live or where their families/kids are but most likely they are trying not only to get the players but the kids and wives as well. Also, DL pretty much got rid of their special events team that does the logistics of all event in park. In addition, I am sure because of security issues, there isn't a press release or maybe someone in PR is dropping the ball...both are plausible though.

Kris Allen did it after he won AI.

WDW also came out with the American Idol Experience. Him doing such a commercial was more for publicity for the attraction than AI. I don't think, actually I am pretty sure that it was a one time thing and you won't see it with next season's winner. But the commercial is traded back and forth between Disneyland and WDW every other year and it will always be for the super bowl than the other sports.

We were there yesterday, didn't even know it was Lakers at Disneyland day, just lucked into it. The only one we saw was Kobe, which was plenty enough for us. I'm not sure if anyone else was there, the crowds were so crazy it was hard to tell what was going on. It was a great experience though, being there with all those Lakers fans at Disneyland. Gotta love it!!

Here are some pix I took with my camcorder. Sorry if they are too big.

Maybe great if you're a Laker fan, but not great if you were just there to enjoy Disneyland. We got stuck in that mess. The minute the park opened at 8AM all these people in Laker jerseys started sitting on the curb along Main Street (the parade didn't start until 10AM), so the parade route was littered for two hours with these people who probably wouldn't have been in the park otherwise. Around 9:30 announcements started over the loudspeakers that there would be a Laker parade "featuring members of the championship Laker team, including Kobe Bryant". As it turns out, Kobe was the ONLY Laker in the parade...just him and a bunch of Disney characters.

We were in Toontown when the anoucements started so we decided to get out of dodge and take the train to Main Street so we could head over to DCA. The train ended up getting to Main Street shortly after 10AM, just as the parade was rapping up, so we were caught in a flood of people trying to exit the park. All I can say is that if the Lakers (or Clippers for that matter )are in the playoffs, don't plan a trip to DL around the time the NBA finals would be ending.

We are from out of state, but the funny thing was watching the LA news the couple days after the Lakers won the title. Fans were complaining that the taxpayers had to split the cost of the Laker Victory parade with the team (not the Disney parade, but the parade through the city). It probably worked out to pennies per person...fans of other teams would gladly pay that to have a victory paraded for their team. Are Laker fans just spoiled?

I thought it was AWESOME! I don't think crowdwise it is any different than the "normal" Disney parades that crowd MainStreet and the fireworks at night when people are sitting in front of the castle. Crowds are a part of amusement vacations. I think it was great to honor the HOME team and we aren't from California. Wished we were :( We LOVED it there while visiting and can't wait to return. Kobe was the MVP so it was great to have him with Mickey on the float in the parade honoring him and the LAKERS.
