So we are retiring at the end of the year and looking for our ideal place to retire in Florida. We really have been liking the Lakeland area and was looking for any input on this area. Is a safe area to live and is there a lot to do near by? any input at all would be appreciated. Thank you!!

We too are looking in Lakeland as a retirement choice. We have spent several weeks there. We enjoy the area and feel very safe. It's like every other place good and bad. We chose it as they have lots of recreational opportunities, major hospitals and not too far from the beach. Good luck and maybe we will be neighbors some day.

Thank you so much we are looking forward to going down there this summer to check it out

Lakeland / Polk County is the fastest growing area in Fl. Lots of open area / land to build homes.
About 30 miles to Orlando, 30 miles to Tampa. I- 4 is not fun, but traffic is horrible everywhere in Central Flo.
The sheriff for Polk county is Grady Judd . Google him. He is GREAT.

If you’re wondering if the area is safe you could talk to the police. My brother did that when he was moving to a new area. He said they were very helpful.

We planned to move too but the houses have doubled in price since the pandemi so now we are saving more and praying the bubble bursts. Lakeland co has had some scary sinkholes.
