I was wondering if anyone here has traded thru II to stay in Lake Tahoe? The Marriott's Grand Residence and Timber Lodge look great.

We had joined DVC in '00 and had banked points to use in '01. We live in Southern California and had a 6 month old. As first time parents, we decided to use our points closer to home. We booked the Ridge through MS. We had a two bedroom condo that was quite large. We also had been upgraded to a room that had a view of the lake. The location was absolutely gorgeous.

The facilities (now that we've been to OKW a few times and VB) are a little dated but still nice. The staff was very nice and they helped us make arrangements for a variety of activities. The room was nice and well taken care of.
Tahoe is one of my all time favorite places. I just love the smell of pine trees. We went in the summer and had plenty to do. If you go in the winter, you have plenty of choices for skiing. The casinos are more intimate than Vegas and sometimes they have some big names. Also, Reno is a short drive and they have some big names too.

When checking out the available timeshares, be careful. We saw some timeshares around the Ridge that were definitely not as nice.

Hope this was helpful!

I live nearby and I have stayed at both the Marriott timberlodge & the Ridge. I'd definitely pick the marriott if you want to be closer to the action. They are totally remodeling the casino area near So. Lake Tahoe Blvd. They have the heavenly chair lift right there at the resort. The ridge has one too but it takes you to the Nevada side then, you have to ski over to the CA side. A lot of the area around the Marriott is not done yet so, you should take that into consideration. There is a lot of construction. The Ridge is really nice too. It is more up in the mountains. They have a shuttle service to take you to the casinos. Anyways, if you have any more questions let me know. The Marriott Grand Residence looked really nice too. I think, the units are bigger than the timberlodge ones.

Thank you so much. I'm gonna call MS and see about availability :)

One more question: How far is Yosemite Park from there?

It's been a few years ago, but when DH and I drove from South Lake Tahoe ( we stayed at Harrah's casino) to Yosemite (east entrance..Lee Vining), it seemed to take about 3 hours ( taking our time, enjoying the scenery)
