I booked a reservation here for 59.99/night after coming to the realization that we just can't justify staying at POR for 126/night (doesn't make sense when we paid 84/night last year). Just wondering about people's experience staying here. Can you actually walk to DTD and what is the shuttle service like, are the rooms nice, etc......Thanks!

I stayed there in August 2003 and really enjoyed it. You can walk to DTD in probably 15 minutes from there. The shuttle was crowded each morning, but efficient. The staff very friendly and rooms spacious. They recently did some remodeling.

See if you can get a view of the fireworks. Usually they offer it for a charge, but I think we were able to get one because we are Best Western Gold Crown Members (even though it was a priceline stay, they noted it at the desk). You can joing Gold Crown for free and just show the card when you check in.

Enjoy your stay!

if you are talking about one of the downtown disney hotels - yes you can.

However I don't think you are.

I think you are talking about Buena Vista - this hotel you can't walk to DD from - no enough sidewalks and a very, very busy road.

here is the list of the downtown disney

The one in Down Town Disney if the Best Western Lake Buena Vista. That one has been going for more than $59 per night (unless you go on Priceline???) since they have remodled. If you are staying at that one (on Hotel Plaza Blvd), yes you can walk to DTD

Yes that's the hotel I'm asking about (the Best Western Lake Buena Vista). I snagged the $59 rate simply by calling, and I confirmed it today....didn't have any code, didn't use Priceline, just what they offered me on the phone. I guess that's a good deal then?

You got an excellent deal!!!! I happen to like that place a lot. My husband isn't crazy about it. The last time we stayed there, they were remodeling it..construction going on, power went out, no elevator working & had to walk up l4 floors... but that was only because of what was going on. Now that is is finished, it looks really nice. The staff there was very nice each time I stayed there. I must have stayed there at least 4 times. Once was for 8 days when my son was in a baseball tournament at Disney. His entire team stayed there & every day after the games, the lobby staff were always waiting to hear from the kids if the won. The rooms there are large. I always managed to get a free upgrade (could be why I like them so much  ) to the room with the 2 beds & the pull out sofa... We have gotten a room that overlooked the fireworks too. When are you staying that you are getting that price? I agree with you about the "discounted" rates on Disney's moderates this year. I was going to stay at PO-R but cannot bring myself to pay that much. I ended up going on SkyAuction & got Silver Lake Resort for a $6.00 bid (see my post on it). That takes care of 7 of my nights. Now I have to decide if I want to stay at Pop Century for the other 6 nights at $74 a night.. I like your rate ;) I am staying at Silver Lake 5/30-6/5 then will need (maybe Pop) for 6/5-6/11 ...

AMickeyFan....glad to hear that other than the rehab issues you have enjoyed your stays there. We are going from May 2-9. I called and cancelled my reservation at POR this afternoon....they really didn't even care very much. I really had my heart set on staying at POR but I think this will work out in the end. I think that we were meant to stay at the LBVR b/c I called again and acted like I was just inquiring on the price and they quoted me 99/night today. I guess we were just lucky and called at the right time for that rate. I just can't see paying double for a smaller room!

How was the transportation from there? We plan to rent a car but I won't be opposed to using their bus system as well if it is good

That is a great rate. Did you call the hotel directly to get it or another number? We will be travelling in June and staying at Coronado Springs for 5 nights but would like to stay somewhere close and less expensive the night before.

Thanks

We called the hotel directly. However the person making the booking did say this rate was being offered b/c we were staying for 7 days or longer. When I called back yesterday just to check I was quoted 99/night if we did not have the special.

Tiggergirl31--We have stayed there many times over the past 14 years. I am sure you will find the location to be fine. We often walked to DTD. The bus service may be a little slow, would suggest using the rental car if the wait seems too long.

A Mickeyfan--Sounds like we were at the BW at the same time that year!! Was it late July of 2002? In 2003 we stayed at another hotel because of all that mess. Went back in 2004 for a couple of nights and loved it as usual!!
