Did you read about Senator Bennett in Bradenton? He wants people on UE to take drug tests - and pay the $30 it costs.

Ya know, in theory, I don't have a problem with wanting to make sure that unemployment benefits aren't being used to suppport a drug habit, BUT to expect the recipients to use their unemployment benefit to pay for the testing is just  That $30 will pay for a lot of other things that someone on UE really needs, like, oh, I don't know......food, medical care, housing.....

Someone really needs to smack the living daylights out of some, OK, the majority, of our politicians, simply because it's cheaper than a brain transsplant.

My IL benefits included the extra $25. Actually IL gives you two weeks at a time so I received $50 but since I did elect to have taxes withheld, my benefits were $43 more. I am putting this "extra" money aside so that I will have the money for my next car insurance payment which comes up in May.

So are people who had jobs and now are unemployed more likely than others getting government assistance to use drugs? Why single out the unemployed? They DID work!!!!!

i think this is horrible and senseless... all the banks getting bailout money, do they have to take drug tests?

I don't think they are more likely. There is not a single reason in the world to believe people who are unemployed are using drugs. I just mentioned to Mrs. Reese because I know she lives in this area. Florida's unemployment compensation system is under great stress. As far as what this senator is up to, I don't know. He sure doesn't have a problem with kicking his constituents when they're down!

I was being facetious!!!!

DH got called for an interview for tomorrow. I am praying that he makes the cut. He is nervous going back into retail management from production. I worry because he is getting very down. It is hard to always be the cheerleader too.

We figured out we are at a less than a third of him income with unemployment. He worked for a contacting company (temp type agency) to get hired into his plant, that is the wage he is drawing from. Not nearly the wage he was making when he was laid off.

Any news yet? I hope it went really well!
A year ago we all were dreaming of trips to Disney now we dream we can get to the grocery store!
DH plant has a Tuesday deadline of closing up posted. There is only a few dayshift personnel left. Today a foreman asked if he would work if it was non union. We suspect they are selling out and going nonunion....big pay cut too if he is asked. I hope that I can get some work for the census and the body will hold out for the weeks utilized. Maybe that will increase the UC benefits later.

We are assuming at this point it is a no go- There were a lot of other interviewers there. They were supposed to call this morning and he didn't hear from them.

The only way we are going to go on vacation next year is earning the money for a Magic Music Day Performance. There will be no vacation for us this year.

I am learning to use my coupons better though.

I think I need to learn some new cheers...

Maybe Senator Bennett would like to employ a bunch us to hand out the little cups, monitor the bathrooms and collect and mark the litte sample containers? Then he could hire a few more of us to drive the samples to the labs, be the lab testors and the people to write the reports and mail out the results? And we wouldn't even have to take the drug test because we would be EMPLOYED.

DH has an interview on Tuesday for a part-time job that isn't in his field and we're EXCITED!! In the past 9 months, he's put out applications everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, with no luck. He has had several interviews in his field that came to nothing, but the jobs out of his field, not one call. We do understand that companies don't want to train people who will leave once the economy picks up, but it is still difficult when you want to work, but it doesn't make it any easier when you want to work.

I am sooooo relieved.

Just to catch you guys up. I have tried really hard to find a job since last May. Theres just nothing. You try on Craigslist and you get stupid spam or scams. You try on local websites and run into dead ends. You try the newspaper and theres a page and a 1/2 of virtually nothing. Anyway...

I have my 2 interview for a lead position at the Disney Store on Monday and last week I interviewed for 2 jobs in my town with very little commute. This one, I wanted soooooo bad I could taste it. I have prayed hard and heard nothing.

I sent her an e-mail Tuesday after the interview to thank her for her time and today I tried to follow up by phone to see if the position had been filled and she was "on the other line" and of course never called back. :scared1:

Anyway, my UE benefits goes to -0- after this Sunday and I have my check in at the UE office yesterday. Turns out KY got another extension, so I get 13 more weeks. Thank goodness!!!! I was so relieved.

I really, really want that job, but at least I don't have to worry about making my house payment for a little while longer.

When will this recession end??? Why won't that lady call me??? geez:confused:

Things are so bad right now. My company had a full-time office position posted online and received over 300 applications in 2 days and it had to be shut down. Also had a PT position advertised and got over 130 applications in 3 days.

I'd hate to be the one sorting them out and having to turn people away. That's sad...

The position I got in November was only temporary, which I was thankful just to get that at least. It finally became a permanent position last month but I had to reapply & reinterview. Talk about stress too...I was in fear that they'd choose someone else and I'd be back to square one. I found out they were happy with my work & I still had the best qualifications and offered me the permanent position starting the 30th. I need this job more than anything right now and I've been thanking God almost everyday since. It just works so well with my daughters schedule & my parents living next door so someone had to be looking out for me. At this point in my life, I couldn't have found a better job and I'm TRULY greatful.

I wish everyone the best of luck and I'll keep you in my thoughts with some pixie dust coming your way!

Please, pay for a drug test! That's ridiculous. Apparently this guy thinks that if you're unemployed it means your a worthless drug user. Oh could I say some things to him.

My poor husband, four email rejections in two days, one for a coffee company - a competitor to the coffee company he worked for - he had experience, etc, and not even granted a phone interview. The poor guy is completely depressed today.

 I know how hard that is. I've applied to over 100 positions in the last year, been on 10 interviews, gotten 3 job offers only to have them rescinded because of budget cuts.:hug::grouphug:
