We are going to be in Lafayette LA and would like to be near the downtown area, or walking distance. Any recommendations for a hotel? We were going to stay at the Juliet hotel but I am reading some scary reviews.

Thanks!

The Juliet is the only hotel downtown. There are no other ones within walking distance. What other areas will you be visiting? That will help me direct you better. BTW, I'm a Lafayette resident.

Thanks for the reply. We are visiting University of Louisiana campus. I did have a reservation at Juliet but I see so many bad reviews that I cancelled and just made a reservation at Hampton Inn, which is a 30 min walk to campus. We can park closer and do the tour I guess. I just didn't want to be stuck in a hotel we didn't like for 3 nights.

We also plan to do a food tour and see some sights. Lafayette is supposed to be a beautiful and culturally interesting city, so we are very excited to check it out.

You can't really walk from the Hampton to campus. I mean, technically, you can. But, it would take more than 30 minutes to get there, despite what Google Maps says. You'll need to drive anywhere you go while you're in town.

You will definitely have a lot of choices as far as restaurants are concerned. We do have the best food in the state, especially our seafood. And make sure you go by Cypress Lake while you're on campus. I graduated in 1976 and I know they have expanded the size of the lake, but there are still alligators in it. We used to have swans back in the day, but I guess the alligators thought they were a little too tasty! 😁

I lived in Lafayette for three years. It’s a fun city. Be sure to check out Chris’ Po Boys, Meche’s Donuts, Zea, The French Press — and, of course, fast-food guilty pleasures like Raising Cane’s, Izzo’s Illegal Burrito and Whataburger. Can you tell I miss that Louisiana cooking? :-)
