Ladies - need your advice. I have never waxed my legs before, but am seriously considering doing it before our Nov cruise so I don't have to be bothered shaving a couple of times throughout that week. I have a few questions and am hoping the "experts" can answer!

1) Does it really hurt....thinking of a knee to ankle wax
2) How long does it "last"?
3) Do I have to let the hair grow out prior to doing the waxing?
4) Is it wise to do the process a few times prior to going on cruise...does the waxing last longer the more times you've gone through the process?
5) Should I also tackle the bikini wax?
Thanks in advance! Jo

I have only had facial waxing done so I can answer you based on that.

It only hurts for a second on two. Not bad at all. I go about every 4 - 6 weeks but I am sure this depends on each individual. I think there has to be some hair there for the wax to hold onto. I would do it at least once before the cruise to make sure you aren't allergic or have any type of bad reaction. My beautician won't do bikini wax because it is hard to hold the skin tight enough and the chance of bruising. I think you should talk to the person who would be doing it with your questions.

Have fun on your cruise.

I've only done the eyebrow, upper lip (twice, not again), and bikini.

I get the eyebrow and bikini regularly.... Legs are too sensitive...

It only hurts for a second and then is red for a few hours....

But some waxers are better then others...and expensive doesn't always mean better....

I had my legs waxed once. I didn't think it hurt that much, and the discomfort was very fleeting. It lasted about 3 weeks.

To help reduce redness afterwards, take some antacid and/or an anti-histamine before you get it done.

I've tried to wax my legs myself a couple of times. That's too much pain for me. It might've hurt less if I had someone else to pull the strips off. I should've gone somewhere to have it done, but I was afraid I'd scream too loud.

Also, get a bottle of Tend-Skin. It works great to reduce the redness and prevent ingrown hairs.

Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!!

I think I would rather shave. Although it is kind of hard to find space in those tiny cruise ship showers without the shower curtain sticking to your butt.

Only ever had a bikini wax & eyebrow wax done. They were ok, but I'd hate to think what it would be like to get the whole leg done tho:(

Bit too Ouchy for me I think:(

I had inquired about leg waxing to the woman who does my eyebrows, and she said for a leg wax, you need to grow out your hair one week prior to waxing.

I would like to get a leg wax for my up coming Disney trip, but not sure if I'm brave enough!

For those who get waxings, what are you paying for legs, eyebrows, facials, bikini, etc?

I always get a full leg and bikini done if i'm going on holiday. I asked the woman doing mine one day if anyone ever got up and left halfway through cause it hurt too much and she said no but one woman did throw up with the pain!!!!
On a more serious note. A lot depends on how quickly your hair grows and how thick it is and how dark it is. In my case i have quick growing thick black hair on my legs. So to be sure i start getting it waxed bout 3 months before i need to. This slows down the regrowth and because on the first wax some hairs may be too short to grab they're up for the second wax and it gets smoother.
Honestly, the pain isn't unbearable.
Good luck.

I go to a full service (kind of pricey) salon and pay $16 for an eyebrow wax. A full leg wax is about $45 to $53.
