I'm posting incognito since people I know IRL read the boards. Okay here is my situation. I have a strange cycle. My period comes every 21 days. I was ovulating around 18-19th of the month (I always get ovulation pains)during which time I had "relations." On Friday morning I had very very light spotting. I was due for my period on Saturday, it never came. My period is always on time. I'm now thinking the bleeding on Friday morning was implantation bleeding. I've been nauseous since last Wednesday or Thursday, which seems to be too early to have "morning sickness." I've taked two hCG tests and both came back negative. I have read that the tests work most accurately 14 days after ovulation. It hasn't been 14 days yet, but since my cycle is only 21 days long, I thought it would be okay to test earlier. Of course, maybe it's just negative, the spotting was just spotting and the nauseous feeling is just a bug :confused3 My gut is telling me otherwise though. Anyone else have a short cycle and get a negative by testing too early?

There are tests that can be done at 5 days. I took those with all my pregnancies. For me, if I was pregnant I got 2 lines immediately. It sounds like it may be too early to tell. I would wait a couple of days (I know, it's sooooo hard) then get an early pg test. Good luck and I hope that you get the result you want!

It sure sounds like implantation spotting to me. Try a First Response Early Result test with your first morning "sample".

Good luck!!!! Is this a good thing (I sure hope so and you'll join us on the Mom's board).

What was the date of your last period?

August 6th.

Hillbeans: First Response was the brand I purchased, but I didn't use first morning urine like it says. I'm going to try it again in a few days. This is definately not a "planned" thing, but I won't get into that!

Some people have really low levels of the hormone that those tests read, so even at 14 days, if you have low hormone level, it still might not give a positive. I would try a test specifically marked for early testing. You could also have the blood test done, that would probably be able to detect the hormone by this point. I don't think that the length of your cycle would affect the test results at all.

I'm just thinking, and correct me if i'm wrong here (for those who know these kinds of things) but don't you need at least X amount of days in your Luteal phase to actually keep a pregnancy (ie, for a pregnancy to implant in your Uterus). You had the implantation spotting on Friday, right?? So that would mean today would be too soon to test.....you'd only have at most 3 days of HCG which wouldn't even show up on a sensitive test for real yet.

I know it's tough, but you need to wait probably 6 days after you "suspect" implantation to get a line on a test, give or take a day.

Ahh okay, that makes sense. I'll wait until I come back from my vacation to test again. The waiting is hard!

What days did you test? You don't have hcg in your system until after implantation. So if you had bleeding on Friday morning and that was implantation, I would wait until Sunday at the earliest to test. The levels start very low. So if you tested Saturday, I think it would be ok to test again. But I was always a big tester! :teeth:

Yes, you are correct about the luteal phase. It's crucial to some of us, but some women do fine with shorter ones. HCG will start to produce immediately after implantation and you can test as early as 2 days after implantation. Of course most women don't have any idea when they implanted.

I had a couple of negative PG tests before I found out I was PG with Hannah. Definitely test your first morning urine. I recommend peeing into a cup, and then pouring it over the test. That way you won't have to fiddle with the test, directions, nervousness, and spraying pee all at the same time. Do your breasts hurt? That is how I know I am PG!

Your cycle should not have anything to do with the test results. hCG levels increase (double every 48 hours) as the embryo grows, so every day it will be more likely that the test will read positive as time goes on.

If you get a negative test 28 days after your last period, and you still feel like you are PG, see your doctor. Not to alarm you, but I had an ectopic PG where the hCG levels were increasing, but not at the pace they were supposed to. I had a negative home test, a postitive test at Planned Parenthood, and then got the bad blood test results at the hospital.

With Hannah I found out when I was 4 weeks along (2 weeks past ovulation). I had to hold the test up to the light to see the line. With Emily I found out at 7 weeks, and it turned blue instantly.

Good luck to you.

are you testing first thing in a the morning? If no, try that. if yes, then hold off for a bit.

my cycle tends to be 25-26 days but I knew I was pg the second time around (I had heartburn, I never have heartburn except when pg). I tested on day 21 and got a positive. granted, I was having twins, so that may have played a role and upped the hormones.

good luck and keep us posted!

Have you ever been pregnant before? Do you remember how it felt? I had the exact same tell-tale heartburn and low grade fever all four times I was pg (I lost one and have 3 kids.)

With my last one I had VERY faint positives at first, and only after waiting longer than the time allocated. But I was pregnant, and DD5 is here as proof!

Yes keep us posted! I am 12 weeks pg. It took me 3 tests to figure it out and I have 2 other children! I needed to see the one that actually spells it right out for you. It says either "pregnant or not pregnant" I almost died when mine said, "pregnant"

I just couldn't make out those lines! :goodvibes

Ooooh I think this is my 500th post.....Yay! :cheer2:

Ohh yes, I already have a six year old and am a single parent at this point :earseek: . The nauseous feeling is the same kind I had with him (lasts all day and night), but I don't remember having that until the 5th or 6th week into the pregnancy.

The more I keep thinking about this, the more and more I'm getting really nervous (as is my SO). I definately want to have more children, but the timing of this is just all wrong. Of course, I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so we shall see what happens. I'll keep ya'll posted and thanks for the replies! :flower:

Well, I'm happy to report that my "friend" arrived about 30 minutes before I got on an airplane for my vacation. I guess "she" was just waiting until that specific time so she could put a damper my vacation LOL. Funny how that happens!! I guess the nauseous feeling was a bug that was going around because someone at work had it as well. As for the spotting, not sure what that was, but maybe stress. I'm happy everything turned out okay :)
