I had a tubal ligation. My doctor stressed to me that if I thought I was pregnant after having the tubal, it is VERY important to see her immediately because of the higher probability of having an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy can cause serious complications, even death.

So, pay the $10 and do a home pregnancy test. If it comes out positive, make an appointment to see your doctor ASAP.

ETA: Given the choice, I'd much rather get pregnant (after a tubal) when my youngest was 4 or 5 than when my youngest was 16. Can you even imagine being one of those women who thinks she's going through menopause and it turns out she's pregnant?

What? Are you trying to say a doctor would pretend to do surgery? That's crazy! Do you have any proof of that???

I think the word that you are looking for is frightening, and it is indeed frightening for women who have been advised against pregnancy for medical reasons. There are good doctors out there who care about their patients, but don't kid yourself. Some have been tried and convicted as sex offenders and all sorts of things, and some do think that it is their right to impose their political and religious views on their patients.

I will grant you that my court reporter's training has jaded me a bit because I saw what charming and personable people could commit the most brutal crimes. The cases against doctors really bothered me the most. Even in the civil cases, it wasn't making an innocent mistake and admiting it that got these people sued for all that the patients could get because patients are often forgiving of doctors who show some humility. The patients sued the arrogant ones who tried to trick them.

I never had children of my own and am now getting too old anyway, but I would be willing to put money on it that the original poster who is so distressed by the thought of being pregnant again is an excellent mother. I remember the words of a doting father of four. He said that he wouldn't take a million dollars for any of his children or a nickel to have another one.
