I have never bought Mary Kay. It is not that I have anything against it; I just have never been to any parties or bought anything.
I have a new friend, and I just found out she sells it. She sent me a Christmas Open House invitation. She apparently will have all of her stuff on display, and some of it must be Christmas specialty products. I am not sure since I have never been to one of these. Since she is a new friend, I want to support her and buy something. I just don't know anything about Mary Kay so I don't know what to expect. Do you have any recommendations? What are some of your favorite Mary Kay items?

Everyone I talked to said it makes them break out. I had bought some of their products and did not like them.

They have some wonderful hand lotions, lots of people rave about them and I tried it at a party and it was really nice. I have very sensitive skin and some of the color products (foundation, eye makeup) gave me trouble. I do use and love their day and night creams that come in little pump bottles. I also bought and LOVE their travel bag. It is usually filled with stuff, I bought just the bag and it is the greatest bathroom travel bag invented. I use it all the time!

MK makes me break out . . . big time!

I love Arbonne -- all natural and have noticed a great improvement in my skin. I have also heard wonderful things about Bare Essentials. :flower:

I love Mary Kay!! In fact, it's about the only line of cosmetics that DOESN'T make me break out. The time wise line is fabulous! If you don't want to purchase cosmetics, try the satin hands set. It's great for your hands and feet too!

I have problems with Mary Kay products as well, as far as the makeup, skin care - facial products.

But I do like the Satin Hands set, and I've got several of their lipsticks (the only part of their makeup line I can use). A friend of mine was going out of business and sold all of her products cheap cheap!! I stocked up on lipsticks, and they really do stay on very well.

I don't like MK's line of cleansing products for your face, but their foundation does not break me out - even Clinique's did. I used to wear Lancomb...
I also like their eye makeup remover and the microdermabrasion set.

I like the stuff for lips. It is like a scrub that removes the dry skin. I love it. That is about the only MK stuff I use.

One thing I have to always remember is that everyone's skin is different. I know some people to can wear MK and they look gorgeous. Of course, I am certain they could also wear Crisco on their faces and look gorgeous, too! But one thing about MK, Arbonne and others you have to purchase from a consulant is just that . . . you have to always find your consultant and make sure they are stocked up. I am a "consultant" for Arbonne but refuse to sell to anyone. I only put myself down as one for the great discount. That's all. And even then it is a pain to have to make sure that I order what I need before I run out because it can be up to a week for delivery. I am not into paying higher shipping costs to get it faster. :teeth:

When I wore Dior (and loved it, but it was not made from natural ingredients, which is what I wanted and what I wear now), whenever I ran out of something, off to the store I went and had it in my hands by the end of the day. Much more convenient.

Also -- lovingly said, please be very careful of these little "parties". I have been so turned off by consultants who constantly try to "recruit" you as their next consulant under them. I actually had a young girl follow me out of a restaurant and say to me, "Oh, excuse me. I couldn't help but notice you are a professional". Being dressed for work, she was right.

She then added, "Well, our company is in the process of recruiting some very sharp people and you stood out". It was then that I was on to her. I told her that I was very happy where I was, thank you very much. She then added, "Well we would love to have someone like you on board with us". I asked her if she was with MK, and she, with "stun" all over her face said, "Why yes, I am".

I then kindly shared with her that while I was flattered by her remarks, I worked many years ago in the MK corporate headquarters and witnessed things that would cause Mary Kay to roll over in her grave. Some things while Mary Kay was still alive, but not really "in the loop". I then kindly told her that anytime I tried the products, I broke out and did not care to go down that road again. She totally understood.

But again, it is always an individual choice. Good luck with your decision. :flower:

I was wondering about lipsticks, kbkids. I am about out of mine (Estee Lauder), and I thought I might try one of MK's if I find a color I like. Plus, I was thinking about maybe buying teacher gifts for Christmas, so the lotion might be great for that?

I cannot stand most of the true cosmetics they sell. Just too heavy and goopy feeling on my face.

I do love Satin hands though... that or the nail polishes would be worht it to buy to me.

That's how I got started on the Satin Hands - a friend of mine gave it to me while I was in the hospital.

I like almost everything they sell... Top ten list:

Microdermabrasion kit :lovestruc (it is like plastic surgery in a bottle)
Day and Night Set
Satin Hands
Oil Free eye make-up remover
Mascara
Nail Care
Lip Stick
Facial Highlighter
Acne Treatment Gel
Bronzing Beads

I think they would make great gifts... I have given Satin Hands and some of there limited edition lotions and shower gels.

I forgot to add they have a great website you should check it out... you can see all of their products.

Yes, disneyaggie. I totally agree. I am a bit concerned about trying to be recruited or pushed into buying. I definitely don't want that. Plus, I don't intend to constantly buy MK. However, this is a new friend that I have made so I feel like I should at least try it once and support her. I just don't want it to become an obligation that I feel I constantly HAVE to purchase something. I am willing to try it once.

Sounds like a plan to me! Good luck! I truly hope you find something that really knocks your socks off. I love it when I find those "gems"! :wave2:

Like certain MK products. Satin Hands set and the lipsticks/lipglosses are great. Sometimes they have special things at the holidays for gifts.
