Ladies, I have an attire question?

Ladies,
We will be on the April 20th Magic Cruise and I don't want to
overpack which I always do anyway. I thought there were two
formal nights and I planned on taking two gowns.. Now someone
mentioned that one of the nights is semi-formal and that I would
not need two gowns and my husband would only need a sportcoat for the semi formal night. Is this correct? I do not
want to take two gowns if a regular dress or summer suit would
do just as well.
Thanks
Jan

A regular dress would be fine for the semi-for night. I wore a gown on formal night and a cocktail dress on semi-formal. On a recent DCL cruise I even wore a pant suit on the semi-formal night.

As for your hubby, a sports coat would be fine also.

MJ

The way I understand it, there is a formal night where your DH will need a dark suit or tux and you will need a cocktail dress or gown.

There is a semi-formal night where DH will need a suit and tie and you will need a dressy dress or cocktail attire.

You will also need a suit and dress in Lumiere's, and at minimum a sport coat and dress or nice pants suit for Palo.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this a four-day or seven-day cruise? I didn't think the 4-days have many formal nights?

You would be fine with one gown and a cocktail dress. Your DH will be OK with a dark suit and a sport coat. Most people do not dress up as much for the semi formal night - but if you want to you will not be out of place.

thanks alot. i have never been on a cruise so i had no idea i needed a gown. does my husband need to buy a tix or will a nice suit work? i am also on the april 20 cruise..amy

You do not need to buy a gown (unless you wish to). For gals you will see anything from emmy type gowns, to traditional gowns, to cocktail dresses, to pants suits. I will be in a 'pant suit'. For guys you will see tuxes, suit and tie, or just sport jacket, and even some with dress shirt and pants. Hubby will be in a suit and tie.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in -- as long as it is in good taste.
:)

And to elaborate a little further on the 'requested dress' attire:
Saturday - resort casual in all dining rooms including Lumiere's

Sunday - Formal

Monday - resort casual parrot cay, animators - Jacket suggested in Lumiere's

Tuesday - Island attire

Wednesday - same as monday

Thursday - Semi Formal

Friday - same as monday/wednesday

"Resort Casual" attire requests 'no shorts please'

I have a question related to attire for a 4 day cruise. What should I take for the nights we eat at Triton's and hopefully Palo's? I have a black cocktail dress but I'm thinking this might be a bit too formal for the 4 day cruise. What do most people wear to Palo's on a a 4 day cruise?

Harriet, a black cocktail dress is absolutely appropriate for Palo and for the night you eat in Triton's on the 4-night cruise. :)

An "LBD" (little black dress) would be great for Formal night, Semi-Formal night, Palo night, Lumière's night. If you look good in an "LBD", you'll have lots of opportunity to wear it.

You could save a lot of suitcase room by not packing your husbands suits, rent him the tux to pick up on board, then you could still pack your gowns. What the heck, how many of us get the chance to dress up, let alone twice in one week! I'm going to force my husband to wear his tux for formal and semi night, and I am gonna watch the papers for a Lord and Taylor sale for me!!! Buy two for the price of one, plus there are enough slinky styles out there now, they'll pack small! TeeHee ;-)

Thanks Michelle and Dave! I'll definitely wear it Palo night! I bought the LBD on sale last fall when we had originally booked the Western Cruise. Well.....vacation plans for this year changed and we are now doing the DVC cruise in April plus a trip to the western US instead. Sure hated to see that dress go to waste;)

so it seems ok with everyone that a nice suit for my hubby would be acceptable and semi and formal nights? im just not sure what i need to buy/ wear as to what is formal...guess i will check out the paper...thanks everyone..amy

Amy, a suit is PERFECTLY fine for your husband on both formal and semi-formal night.

As for you, anything from a dressy pantsuit to a ball gown would fit in, honestly! Don't worry about getting anything too formal if you don't want to, you will see a wide gamut of ladies attire on those nights.

Enjoy! :)

I think we all (at least i did) get the impression from the DCL video that on formal night EVERYONE is dressed in a ballgown or tux. That is not the case.

I wore a a black cocktail dress both formal nights and did not feel out of place. There were a lot of different type formal clothes- even just very nice 'church' dresses. I even saw a few men without a sportcoat or dress shirt. Everyone will be having so much fun they won't care what you are wearing.

They do take a lot of pictures and it is nice to have pictures with everyone in your party dressed up.

Is there still the no jeans ban or can you wear jeans that are obviously in good condition (no rips) in the rest. on resort casual days?
Also, has anyone ever brought a dress and worn it again another night? My husband said that he thinks I should do that and since we will be dining with the same folks every night I feel uncomfortable....what are the thoughts on this? I wonder do people really notice that? I personally wouldn't unless the outfit was so unique that I took notice......
I hate to pack 2 dresses for semi formal then there is always that chance that you could be at Lumieres twice right? so I could very well have to wear one of the dresses again....so of course I would then have to pack AT LEAST 4 dresses....2 dressy and 2 more of a casual.....HELP....LOL

No jeans in the restaurants at all, on any nights.

I'm taking one long black skirt and two fancy tops (one is lace, the other has satin trim and is actually the top that came with the skirt) to cover the formal nights. I'm going to wear a dressy dress on Lumiere's night. I'm going to wear one of the above to Palo's.
