I can't use the regular pill as it gives me horrible headaches but I heard about the low hormone pill the other day and wondered if it will make a difference. Has anyone had headache troubles on the regular pill and tried this new low hormone pill? Any other positive/negative experiences on it?

I'm on a low dose estrogen pill - Loestrin Fe/120, and it is Wonderful! I used to be on Ortho Tri Cyclen and had headaches EVERYDAY! I have had no problems with Loestrin:wave:

I had a terrible time with bc pills, then I went on Loestrin and it is great. In fact, since I went back on after having DD, I rarely have a cycle and when I do it is light. I was laughing last month, I had a period and in the old days, I would have considered it pretty mild, but I have gotten so spoiled being on loestrin that I was a big baby and whined! I think the generic version (what I take) is called microgestin. You should try it!

Hmmm I will have to mention that brand to the doctor, I had heard about Tri-cyclen Lo. Whatever it is, I think we'll give it a try. It would be wonderful to be back on the pill and not have the icky side effects.

I used the Loestrin because of severe headaches. It worked well for me. After our 3rd child my husband decided to have surgery so I don't have to use it anymore.

I was on the lowest dose of estrogen available, and still had fearsome migraines. Unfortunately for me, when I was on the pill for 5 years, I always got headaches, each month getting worse and worse, to the point of ending up in the ER. After that I stopped taking them, but the damage was done, 2 months (1975)after I stopped, I had a stroke, directly atributed to the pill. Fast forward to 2001, I had a hysterectomy, and went back on estogen for HRT. The headaches began within a year, and again got to the point of being so bad that I was totally out of it. This time I learned my lesson. The day I stopped taking them, I felt like a weight was lifted from me. Of course I was taking them to relieve menopause symptoms, not for BCP, but if you don't tolerate them, let your doctor know, no matter what.

I am in Tri Norynol (sp?) and always get headaches. I have been on the pill so long that I never thought to blame it on that. Is the new pill covered by insurance and just as good at preventing OOOPPPPSSSS?

The new low does pills are great, in my opinion! To answer frannn's question, according to my MD, you have to be even more diligent about taking them at exactly the same time everyday, because your system maintains a lower level of hormones than the normal ones and if you're even a few hours late taking it then an Oops! is more possible. But as long as you're on a consistent schedule, you'll be fine!

I take Ortho TriCyclen LO. To be really honest, I have not noticed a difference from this and the regular pill. I just liked the idea of having a lower dose of hormones going into my body.

Please talk to your doctor about the headaches.
