Ladies...Bust Size and the Fobidden Journey?

I rode FJ in 2014 when I was about 5'6" and around 240lbs, but I almost missed out because they nearly couldn't get that necessary 3rd click on the restraint. My first ride was fine, but imagine my shock when we went through again in the evening I almost couldn't fit. A lot of my extra weight is in my rack (I've always been well-endowed even when thin), but I was able to force the restraint down on myself to get that last click. I was absolutely MORTIFIED in front of my husband that I was almost too fat to ride, something that had never even crossed my mind as a possibility since Disney has no size restrictions and I hadn't been to Universal since before I started packing on weight due to my metabolic hormone disorder. Too fat to ride, I couldn't believe this was even a thing! I rode Dueling Dragons just fine, but after the horror of almost being too fat to ride FJ, I shrugged off Hulk even though I love it. I was just too afraid I would be embarrassed again.

Anyway...I've worked hard (ie: starved myself and worked out obsessively) and managed to lose SOME weight since then, but I still worry that I might not fit. Right now I'm about 224, and I'm going to continue to starve myself until we go in early Oct, but due to my disorder it's all but impossible to lose weight so I don't have high hopes in losing more than 4 pounds or so in the next 2 months. I actually have recurring nightmares about not fitting.

So...my question for the gals is...at what bust size did you achieve those 3 clicks? At what bust size were you in the clear, not even grazing the too fat to ride radar? I've read tips to wear a minimizer bra and loose fitting clothes, so I will definitely do so but is there anything else?

Thanks, all!

It's hard, because there are so many variables in how we each carry our body weight, but I had no problem at approximately your height and current weight, with a 40G bust size. I can't imagine a minimizer would do much, but I do think loose fitting clothing might be helpful.

There's a thread here somewhere I believe re this. Did you try the sizer car first before you rode last trip?

No body shaming here! Athletic builds in relatively slim men & height size can be an issue too.

At the risk of being indelicate...men - avert your eyes if squeamish:rolleyes1

It's more of a cup size issue for many women...

Lock & load!

Traditional Minimizer type bras can be hot, bulky and uncomfortable as to how they re-distribute things not to mention horribly unstylish, I am absolutely not a fan.

investigate the type of wicking, microfiber sports bras they have, tons of brands...no padding is the key. They make them in extended sizes to cover most shapes. Do not size up

Bali brand is a good one but IMO fruit of the loom/Hanes are 'cooler' with better wicking properties & sell at half the price. WM sells them, Champion also, but pricer. Make sure to look at the type with a back clasp vs the pull over your head ones that don't fit as well.

While you're at WM, check out their danskin line of cheap, wicking athletic T-shirts (thin is the key as to reduce friction) couldn't hurt the cause. You could always layer it under a tank, etc if it's not your personal style.

Good luck.

That second time, were you in one of the end seats on FJ? In case you don't know, the end seats have a nicer allowance for how far it has to come down.

And there are extended seats on the Hulk, too, in case you didn't know that.

Since you actually DID fit both times when you were heavier, I'm sure you'll be fine having lost some weight.

Metabolic problems are rotten. DH's metabolism has always been awful, and now he's got a pituitary tumor on top of it. His endocrinologist is ecstatic when he maintains, and he leaps for joy if DH loses 5 lbs in a year. It's so hard. (and he cannot ride any of the big rides he wants to ride, not even FJ, at this point...might never be able to ride Mummy or Gringott's b/c of the way the leg restraints work b/c even when 100+ lbs lighter his legs are like tree trunks and just don't work with those restraints)

Good question for me too.. I am 5"10 220 lbs and my bust is 44 F I was hoping I would be able to ride this when we go in the Fall. I guess there is only one way to find out and that's wait in line

I love target sports bras. They're thick enough to contain the girls, but still good for hot days. I find myself being WAY happier in the parks on days I wear a sports bra than a regular one. While I don't have the size issue, I do know boobs. I'm a DD at 25 and thin. I find I look a normal Cish cup in a target sports bra. They also come with some removable inserts. They're not thick-- think bikini insert. They're also a decent price. my only dislike is sometimes they cause too much pressure on my shoulders. I also highly recommend the lounge bra at VS. It will not squish the girls, but it will allow for free-ish movement while still providing coverage.

Good luck! Don't ever feel ashamed and please please please eat well! I hope you're using the starve in a sense if you want more, but know you shouldnt rather than a literal starve. Starving yourself can be disastrous to any dieting! Putting too many restrictions is bad. Realistic goals with realistic expectations is key. If you set too far of expectations and food(dieting) goals then I find I get very discouraged VERY easily and say to heck with this. When I set small goals and obtainable dietary changes I find I stick to it and gradually change rather than all at once. Not trying to tell you what to do or anything of the sort-- just sharing my experiences. I struggle with VERY high cholesterol levels as well as some other dietary levels. Realistic was my key word. Idealistic is a killer. Everyone is different though.

They have tester seats at rides that potentially have a problem. If you're nervous I've seen other people suggest pretending to take a picture for a souvenir! I see lots of people(All sizes and ages!) do this.

Thank you. I'm hoping to do it but like you said I will try one of the tester seats.

I bet you will do fine. I'm 5'10 and 250 and I fit in the end seats just fine. I'm not as big as an F, but my boobs weren't squished at all. Those middle seats are awful though. Don't even attempt a middle seat. I sat in of those first (not knowing they were smaller) and felt completely claustrophobic! Fortunately, the CM (or whatever you call the at Universal) noticed and had me switch with my daughter. Much better!

This is good to know. I will try an end thank you.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I will definitely try to remember to get an end seat. Hopefully the CM (or whatever) will direct me to it without everyone else knowing why.

And no, I don't literally starve myself. I've just been restricting my calories to less than 1000 a day and what I do eat is very healthy. I'm just in a snit lately because I eat very little and work so hard just to not gain and maybe lose a few ounces. I keep hoping that I'll get to a point where my body decides it's ready to start responding like a normal body to my efforts.

I've been asking my body to do that for YEARS! I had my gall bladder removed at 22 and have not been able to eat high dairy fat foods since middle school. I try my best to roll with the punches. I can gain and lose 5 pounds in a day and there's no reason to it. I can't control it. Even my GI doesn't get it. I do hope that it gets easier for you and that you are able to live "normally"... whatever normal is. I did start a probiotic that has seemed to help keep the bloat off of me. Helps the inflammation in my gut 10 fold.

Hope all works out for you and you have a lovely trip! Keep working hard! :) we believe and support you up here at DIS!

I did fine on the ride but carry most of my weight in the stomach. Gringotts was another story, SO uncomfortable! But I deal with it till the ride is over. I guess they have to make sure they can safely restrain the kids who ride so the seats will always run a little small but it would be so nice if they had a special car for bigger adults. Or even a special car for smaller kids!

IMO that's really low. If I tried that I would be miserable, fainty, and I wouldn't lose. And my workouts would be very weak.

To me that's starving.

I had to quit WW because their new plan doesn't work with how I eat (is vegetarian paleo possible? I'm trying!), and if I eat how I ate while losing 80 lbs on their pre-December program, when I hit the end of my points I was under 1000 most days. And my description above is how I was. I lasted two weeks and they weren't pretty for anyone. And that was in maintenance. Grr.

You might want to consult with a nutritionist if you haven't, and consider find in a new one if one prescribed that current diet to you.

Somewhat related, but different body type ... we just booked to go to Universal in August. My problem is the size of my butt and thighs ... boobs aren't a problem at all. LOL I'm 5'6" and weighing about 220 right now. What rides will be "impossible", versus "uncomfortable" ? I just don't want to get up to a ride and find that I don't fit ... I would be humiliated. For example, I find Snow White Mine Train at WDW very uncomfortable, but then so does my DH who is very slim, so go figure. And Sum of All Thrills at EPCOT ... the last time I tried it the CM really had to push down to get it to clip in, and I was sure it was my legs that were causing the problem. :(

I like the "pretend you're taking a pic in the test seats" idea ... will definitely try that ! But am I being worried for nothing? While I know I am overweight, I don't come close to many people I see at the theme parks.

I worry about this as well. DH and I are big people, and it would be mortifying to get booted from a ride because of size. I've lost 65 lbs. since my last visit to US, but that was in 2007 and HP wasn't around then.

Wow!!! Congrats on your hard work!!! That's awesome!
For gringotts if you were fine with the mummy you will be fine. They are VERY similar ride vehicles if not exactly the same.
I have nothing to compare FJ to.

Thank you! Very helpful info! I did go on Mummy, but it was a smidge tight back then. DH and I are both working on continuing to lose weight...if I could lose another 20 lbs by December I'd be happy.

I was on WW for over a year - lost a little over 30 pounds - and then they introduced this new program and it's been nothing but crap for me the past 6+ months! I finally cancelled my membership because it just isn't working anymore.

How about large thighs on Forbidden Journey? I'm 5'9, and have a smallish bust, but big butt and thighs...will that be an issue on the ride?
