Ladies, anyone with PCOS?

What is PCOS? I've been taking metformin for a few years, but for something else.

PCOS = Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom. It is basically a hormone imbalance that can cause cysts on the ovaries, as well as a lot of other problems such as hair growth in strange places, adult acne, even Type II diabetes. The biggest problem that most women with PCOS seem to have is with infertility. A lot of women with PCOS do not ovulate on their own, or if they do, they have trouble carrying a pregnancy to term. A LOT of women with PCOS (myself included!) end up using Fertility drugs to get pregnant.

One of the major effects of PCOS is that it can help make your body resistant to insulin. If this condition lasts long enough, you can develop Type II diabetes (That's me!), so they use Glucophage/Metformin to minimalize the insulin resistance.

I had a very mild case but it was causing intfertility. I took Metformin for three weeks and found out I was pregnant.

I stopped the Metformin several weeks into my first pregnancy. Had a tough time at the beginning and then my water broke at 31 weeks but none of these issues were attributed to the PCOS. I haven't taken Metformin since.

I asked my doctor to re-test me when I was trying to lose weight. He said my insulin resistance was normal. Go figure.
