Ladies, a Question for Those Who Have Had a Hysterectomy

I told my Mom I would ask this question for her. She had a hysterectomy several years ago, a complete one. But she has still had annual pap tests, until this winter. Her new doctor said since she's had a hysterectomy that she didn't need one. Is this true? Mom wants to believe the doctor, but just feels like they would have stopped the annual pap tests right after the hysterectomy if she really didn't need them anymore.

I had them for several years after mine and then was told just the check up, but a PAP wasn't needed anymore.

I had a total hysterectomy several years ago as well. I was told that I would still need Paps every other year because there's no clear way to know that all of the cervical cells were removed...
