I have had tummy issues for years. I've had all kinds of tests and they all tun out negative. My doctor told me I'm extremely healthy (other than being underweight).

However, something is wrong. 50% of the time I'm either nauseaus or in agony. I'm taking Prilosec right now and it doesn't seem to be helping. I think I'm going to do an elimination diet, and see if lactose is my problem. If that doesn't seem to help, I'll cut out bread and see if it's celiacs.

If you are lactose intolerant, what are your symptoms? What do you do about it? Is it horrible? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you seen your doctor? If you suspect a lactose issue, there is a lactose breath test that can be ordered to help diagnose this.

I was having stomach pains and diarrhea after I would eat any significant amount of dairy or anything with whole milk in it. . So I switched to Lactaid Brand Milk and Breyers makes a lactose free ice cream that I buy sometimes. They also sell tablets you can take right before you eat dairy to prevent any problems.... This has helped me... I think you shoud keep a food journal and track what you have eaten and your symptoms afterewards... you will figure out the culprit of your pain eventually......;)

I'm Lactose. Same as above poster. I take Lactaid pills before I eat any ice cream or have any milk (cereal, milkshakes, etc..). The lactaid pills really help. Both DH and I take them. I also use to buy Breyer's lactose-free ice cream and lactaid milk, but since we take the lactaid pills, we don't have to be limited to lactose free products. If I didn't take lactose pills I would have terrible stomach pains.

My DD is lactose intolerant and has irritable bowel, it took forever for the Drs' to figure it out:confused: We finally had the breath test and found out about the lactose issue and since the elimination of dairy in her diet, she has felt sooooo much better. Unfortunately, the lactaid pills don't work very well for her, we researched it and they don't work for everyone, some people need to take quite a few pills to see a difference.

Another thing you want to look up, since your having these issues, is fructose malabsorption or fructose intolerance. I'm pretty sure I have that. If I eat any fruit that does not have good fructose-to-glucose ratio (apples, pears, grapes, etc.), I am in the bathroom. I cannot tolerate ANY fruit juices at all anymore or anything high in fructose without glucose to balance it out.

Forgot to mention, DD's symptoms when she eats dairy: bloating, pain, nausea, constipation.

I also am lactose intolerant. I stick to Lactaid but on the occasion I have regular milk, I can count of tons of gas about 6 hours later. Cheese and ice cream does not affect me, so I guess I don't have a severe case.

But my tummy issues don't end there. :) I am underweight like you and it took 10 years and several doctors to figure out it that the major pains I was having were from my gall bladder. My attacks didn't seem to come regularly nor could I figure out the trigger. My pain was right in my stomach and felt like someone punched me. And my back hurt too. The back pain is typical of gall bladder attacks. If these are your symptoms (inlcuding nausea and vomiting) don't rule out your GB until you have an ultrasound or HIDA scan.

Now my sister recently has trouble with her tummy and she is gluten intolerant. She would have to run to the bathroom after eating some foods.

I hope you get it figured out!
