I saw my doc yesterday for some diabetes related stuff and mentioned that I have been having some stomach trouble. I mentioned it seems to coincide with times when my blood sugar is higher, and asked if that could be the culprit or if it was just coincidence. She told me to try going lactose free for two weeks to see if it is a milk allergy.

I'm just now realizing how many food have milk as an ingredient! Does anybody have any suggestions on eating lactose free? Also, is there any soymilk out there that tastes like regular milk? All I saw were the vanilla/chocolate/strawberry varieties.

I have just avoided cheese, yogurt and milk as and have done well. I don't really avoid it in cooked products.

If you like creamer in coffee, there is one I found that is lactose free. I think it is called Community Coffee. We cannot buy it here so I stock up when I find it in other cities. You may try the lactaid pills that are OTC.

Good Luck!!!

I went dairy free for 3 weeks trying to troubleshoot my DD problems (I was breastfeeding). It was hard untill I found good alternatives of my favorite foods (like ice cream) check out www.dairyfree.com Its a helpful site that tells you what doesn't have milk (brands, take-out food etc). There is "plain" soy milk. I've never tried to drink but my DH cooked with it and it worked just like milk did.

Turns out DD didn't have a milk allergy... I had another issues which we worked out. But it was interesting to live dairy-free for a while.
