Lactose Free Milk?

Do any of the food courts have lactose free milk available?

Could I call and have them order it for us?

How can I find out in advance of our arrival if it is available?

I was planning on ordering from garden grocer or taking a taxi to the closest grocery but if it is available on property that would be better.

This is for the toddler traveling with us. And what about in the parks... it would be great not to have to worry about carrying milk around.

I think I found the answer to my question on allears. It seems that some resturants provide soy milk and most do not provide any lactose free milk alternative.

So it looks like our best bet is to get it ourselves.

This information may be old so if anyone has new info I'd be glad to hear it.

We recently sailed with DCL and were so pleased with the efforts made to accomodate the baby's lactose intolerance. We were provided milk every night at dinner and enough to take back to the room with us for the rest of the day. They even made her special chicken fingers with a milk free batter one night. I suppose I was looking for the same service.

My daughter drink Lactaid and I ordered it from Garden Grocer for our trip in January!

From other threads on this board, I am pretty certain that you can get soy milk at any CS or TS location in WDW. I also checked the shopping lists for a few of the DVC resorts, and they also have soy milk available.

I did not see any mention of lactaid, but that doesn't mean it might not still be available. If you contact SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com they can probably give you definitive information and possibly arrange for lactaid for you.

We thought my son was lactose intolerant and we had a hard time finding anything but soy. I think one restaurant we ate at had it, but I can't recall which. Now he is allergic to tree nuts so that is our next allergy adventure at Disney.

I think it would be difficult to get the same kind of service at a food court or counter service at a theme park as you would get on a cruise ship.

I'm assuming that you're not looking for soy milk, which I know I have seen available. You may want to check the DISAbilities forum about the availability of lactose free milk.

Thanks for this information too. We are travelling in May 2011 and my son is allergic to dairy and can only have soy milk. Did you have to advise them prior to boarding you required soy milk or were they happy to provide it to you on the spot?? Also what happended at brekky time - did you have to ask or did they have it readily available?? With the meals did you ask for dairy free meals prior to meal times or at meal times??
Sorry for the million questions but we are travelling from Aus so we are not aware of the shopping over there at all - here in Aus it is so common for kids to have dairy allergies you can get soy milk just about anywhere.
Any information is greatly appreciated and will make our holiday so much easier

Next trip she was eight months old... still formula. By the time we went again she was well over a year old 15 months I think and she was off formula by then.

She ended up having just water the whole time. With an occasional iced tea thrown in.

So no there was not a single place we found lactaid.

Wow that would have made things difficult for you. Luckly our son can have soy milk so are you saying they serve soy milk in most places at WDW??

Soy milk was easier to find. They definitely had it at the food court areas.

I've done a little more research and this is what I have found.

lactaid milk is not available anywhere on property- not in the shops or in the resturants.

Soy milk seems to be eaiser to find.

I didnt look for Rice milk which is what we were given on the Disney Wonder cruise for the baby. It is lactose and gluten free. Disney resturants do alot of gluten free diet accomodations so that may be available.

I did find Lactaid milk available through Garden Grocer. A grocery delivery service. And this is the option we have chosen. Since we are flying this will also save luggage space. They carry alot of the Gerber snacks that the baby eats, Lactaid milk, diapers, wipes and so on. All these combined I think we will eaisly meet the minimum order requirement. And when we return to Disney in the spring with a 2 yo and an infant we will be ordering formula from them as well.

Also from what I have read, I think if you are trying to have meal accomodations at the table service resturants on property, it is best to call ahead or let the reservationist know when you make your dining reservations.

If any of you are doing a Disney cruise, they seem to be better able to accomodate. Maybe because they know you cant just go out to the store. Like I said before, we were given a half gallon of Rice milk each night at dinner and we kept it on ice in our room for use throughout the day. The baby had never had rice milk before but she drank it just fine and no tummy upset. The dining staff also made her chicken fingers with a milk free batter one night. Her lactose intolerance was noted on our reservation.
