Lack of Ethics

delicious

I understand that you had an arrangement with this other member and yes they should have completed what ever arrangement you pre set. But with all threads where members ask for help because of what ever reason other members may end up gifting them what ever they missed and thus making it unnecessary for them to complete the deal.
I think the issue here is trading versus gifting. If a poster offers to buy future items in return for items they can't purchase while they are away, that's a trade agreement, pure and simple.

I think it's actually more impolite for someone to agree to this kind of arrangement and not follow through, than it would be to agree to a regular trade and then accept the item free from (or trade with) someone else. Why? Because in the first case, the buyer of the poster's items goes out of their way to buy items that they don't want/need themselves. In the second case, they are only out the time and effort invested in the potential trade.
This is why I do not like to trade. Everyone has the right to change their minds even after they have made a commitment...
True. On these boards, we have the luxury of deliberating on trades to the nth degree. But as far as VMK is concerned, nothing is final until the "accept" button is clicked. We actually make it more complicated by turning it into a verbal agreement.

In the past two years, at least a quarter of the trades I've agreed to never took place, due, I presume, to unsuccessful attempts to meet up or just plain loss of interest. It helps to have an "If it's meant to happen, it will" attitude.

Wow! And here I was thinking this was something fairly uncommon. Thanks for opening my eyes.

yes it was, but I think you are missing my point. DISers are gifters and as such when they see a post by another member asking that an item be bought for them while they can not be in the game and they will trade for it when they return....some DISer will see that not knowing that a "Trade agreement" has been entered into with another person....when the member who couldn't get the item returns to the game, they run into, whether by accident or via their friends list another DISer who gifts them the items they missed thus making their need to trade with the other person obsolete....now a lot of DISers would just complete the pre arranged trade anyway. But again as you said and as VMK says as far as VMK is concerned, nothing is final until the "accept" button is clickedI hope that makes the point I am trying to get across more clear.-Mal

that is why I said do not go into a trade like this one unless you can afford to consider the items a gift or afford to keep them for yourself. I disagree, not that I would not complete a trade agreement like this but I just feel that any trade is not a trade until the final button is clicked, period.-Mal

I think that is the best attitude to have.

I added this to my previous post but I will also say it here:

DISers are generous to a fault, while I love this about our members from a trading stand point it is not always in the best interest of the traders.

I am not disagreeing with you...far from it I am just trying to point out why your trade agreement may not have been followed through on.

This is why I do not like to trade. Everyone has the right to change their minds even after they have made a commitment...if more people exercise this right maybe we would not have such a high divorce rate in this county.
There are always two sides to every story and varying opinions to every issues.

I am not saying one way is right and the other is wrong just offering an opposing opinion and/or side.

I am lost on this, are you saying we can trade wives now? If so I would like to offer up my brothers, I will take a good dog in exchange for her.:rotfl2:

wow this thread has taken an interesting turn.
If thats the case i got a brother up for trade. No offense scooter.

Well first off to keep the thread on topic ... I am glad some of the ethics of good trading are being discussed. I have not done alot of trading recently bc of some of the experiences I have had.

And second .... Thanks alot Rob ... I so feel the love :rotfl: :rotfl: On the other hand though you might be surprised on some of the offers you would get for me if you would give people an idea of some of the things you might be looking for  :yay:
