Apparently the Modesto police department is holding a press conference at 9:00 EST about "a significant change in the case". I wonder if it's the identification?

I have to ask this question.. And I may bring it over to the Debate Board as well.. But here goes - and as a forewarning, it's rather gory..

News reports have indicated that the head, hands and feet of the "female" body had been cut off.. The infant was found with the umbilical cord still in tact..

Now until there's some hard evidence, the DH remains "uncleared" as a suspect.. But regardless of whether it was Scott - or some total stranger - do you think a person that could cut off a pregnant woman's head, hands, and feet could ever be "rehabilitated".. I'm leaning towards "No.."

Also (and maybe someone here with medical knowledge could answer this question) - if the umbilical cord was still attached to the dead infant - and the infant was found a mile or two away from the female - does that mean that the baby was born before all of this occured, or what?

This is a TERRIBLY unsettling case.. How - and WHY - would anyone do such a thing???????

First of all... I just heard on CNN that Scott Peterson has been arrested. It's not confirmed yet but they are working on it!!!


As for the questions....I'm just going by what I heard. The baby was probably "delivered" after she died. Apparently, after some time in the water, the body builds up certain gases and these gases push the baby out. As for the other part... there is a possibility that the limbs were lost because she was attached to weights. Again, once the body has been in the water for so long, certain deterioration (sp??) occurs and that is how the limbs were disengaged. She may not have been that way going in.

P.S. I think there is NO WAY he (or whoever responsible) could be rehabilitated.

Well my husband is a police officer and he said that if the body was tied to something...parts that weren't tied might start to come off as the body decomposed? Don't know if this is what happened but is one theory.

According to the Today Show the other day....the fetus may have detached itself naturally after a period of time, especially in water. They said it was a phenomenum (sp?) called "coffin birth" and they would not go into it in detail but said you would be able to research it on the web. I coudn't bring myself to do that.

Like kdibattista said, the baby could have come out after being in the water so long. Also, the other day I heard an expert on the news saying that a woman can give birth after death. I guess it is just like when someone empties their bladder and/or bowels after they die.

It will be nice for her family to have some answers. I hope they find out what they need to know soon. They do need to know what happened to their precious daughter so they can be at peace with it.

FoxNews is also reporting that the husband was arrested. Now let's hope that the police have postive evidence to convict him.

Such a gruesome and horrific death that Laci's family must deal with. How they will be able to come to peace with this senseless death is difficult to fathom.

I hope this all ends with closure for Laci's family...My feelings about Scott's mother though are along the line of how could this person (and now it is obvious he has no feelings if he did indeed commit this crime) continue to let his mother (who appeared to be ill and on oxygen a good bit of the time) "front" for him on numerous occasions by defending him to the press and Laci's family? I'm sure as a mother, you WANT to believe your son is innocent, but it is like he put her "out to dry" too, and now his family who has so staunchly stood behind him may have to eat their words. Then again, they seem to feel he has been "framed" in this whole matter. I think they all need to step back and look at the big picture and what he most possibly has done to his innocent wife and unborn son. I think even as a mother who deeply loved her son, I would have had to wonder about the whole thing as more facts came to light that he so obviously has lied about.

The news conference is on MSNBC right now. DNA shows that Laci Peterson and her son are positively identified. Scott Peterson is in the custody of Modesto County police officers and is being transported to jail.

Capital murder charges. They've established jurisdiction. They're not automatically seeking the death penalty though. If they did, would they get it in that county?

This is so hard to think about, it almost overwhelms me, like when the twin towers fell, how could anyone do this to 2 innocents ? I have been obssessed with sadness over the twin towers since 9/11, you know, it's always lurking in the back of my memory. This will be added too. The news will definatley tell us as much s they can about the baby, as a nurse I can say it will be easy to tell if the baby ever took a breathe Who ever did this, and GOD help the husband if he did, not only will God get him, but prisoners will get him first.
