Labor Day Weekend Wonder 4 day 9/5

Greetings from sunny hot FL,
My wife Toni and I will be on this cruise. We will look forward to meeting everyone and see the pins of the collectors. We live about 2hr 45min from the port but this trip we will be in Cocoa Beach on Sat.
See ya on board,

What do you all think about this hurricane that is coming?
I just got over Charley and now this thing decides to show up!
Not happy.

I have been following the path of the hurricane (www.weather.com) and right now the Bahamas and Castaway Cay are right in the path of the hurricane. The Wonder might have to return to port late to avoid the hurricane when if it hits southern or central FL.

It looks like the storm should pass through Central FL by late on Friday. I am concerned about the damage that might be caused from the store affecting our vacation plans (closure of Orlando airport, damage in Bahamas or Ports, etc.).

All we can do is watch and wait and hope for the best!

By the way...we currently have a family joke going about this storm. My mother's name was Frances and my daughter said that because Grandma isn't able to go with us she is throwing a fit...LOL. My mother was a huge Disney fan!

Quite frankly, I'm afraid to look at the weather channel. I work with adolescents and use my trip as an example to be prepared for all posibilities (versus eggs in one basket/expecting it the way they want it to be). I pray we have good weather. If not, there are lots of indoor activities. Can we pool our resources and mentally drive it back into the Atlantic? Guess not. We'll be doing the reservation shuffle early afternoon yet may make the 3rd floor atrium. I'll wear a yellow ribbon. John

Can you tell your mom to get over her little tantrum soon please???
:sunny:
As long as I get on that ship, I don't care whre it goes.

Hi guys!

The family and I are all holding our breath about the weather, too, but we're confident that everything will work out just fine. What a time of year to take our first cruise! Oh well, we love living on the edge! DH is really looking forward to Castaway Cay, but I don't care where we go as long as we sail...

We will also be doing the ressie shuffle, but will try to make it up for the 3:15 meeting. I will be the one with the very cute, but very wild, almost four year old blonde DD. I am sure she will be asking EVERYONE what their name is, along with their mother's name, their papaw's name, etc..... She is very friendly!

I am also blonde, and DH is tall with dark hair. Just listen for the people hollering "Katie" and trying to keep up with a little tornado! Ha!

Can't wait to see you there!

Shannon

Well as of this morning the computer models of where the hurricane will go show most of them tracking the eye to track away from the atlantic coast but the hurricane force winds extend out 85 miles from the eye.

I am not as much concerned with the sailing as much as I am with hearing that the Orlando airport might be shut down on Saturday when we are scheduled to arrive (so much for arriving a day early).

We can just hope that the storm moves further out into the Atlantic.

My husband and our 6-year old son will be on the cruise leaving Sunday, September 5, and we are watching the storm along with the rest of of you and hoping for the best for the Florida coastline! They've had enough this year already! WOO HOO are we ready to cruise? We are totally packed since we have to work all week and will be driving down Friday morning to attend a wedding in Deland before heading over to the port. We will have a BLAST, I'm sure!!!::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo pirate:

I just cannot believe that our cruise is getting so close! I've started packing, but haven't gotten everything done. Suzepoo, I am so jealous that you're already ready to go!!

We will be driving to FL from Virginia, so it should take us about 12 hours. I think we'll leave early Saturday morning. I couldn't get the DH to agree to leave Friday after work and stop along the way. We plan to spend Saturday night in Cocoa Beach and get to the port bright and early!

Can't wait to get there!

Shannon:wave2:

Don't be jealous....it's just called my life, haha. I have to be that organized because I have no free time through the week. We will be driving from Tennessee and should arrive in Deland in about 9 hours. We are staying with some old friends in Deland and then attending the wedding and reception on Saturday evening, then driving over to Port Canavaral on Sunday morning, so just gonna be a BIG PARTY WEEKEND for us, and then we cruise, woo hoo! I can't WAIT to wake up Friday morning! Have a safe trip and don't forget to pack the sunscreen!

Bob,
maybe you can call the airlines now and try & get in Friday night before everyone else does that.
I'm actually booking a room in Tampa Saturday night just in case they change ports. This seems like a slow moving storm. The news today said it's tracked to hit the Bahamas Saturday 8am.
This could cause damage to PC. CC not looking good if it continues this track :(
I hate the waiting game.

Well I have already looked into leaving on Friday but the airline I am booked with only has a 6:20 am flight available. My wife and I can't get out of work until after 5 on Friday.

I hope the new computer models of the hurricane's track end up being correct as they show a turn north and hopefully away from the coast far enough not to close Orlando Int'l.

Here, take a look at this. I usually follow his tracking, he's pretty accurate most times. You can check other airlines, I did that once duringa snow storm, they may honor your ticket if they have room. Don't forget about Sanford and Tampa airports also.

Well Cheryl,

I read this guy's report from this morning. I hope this guy is right on the money for our sake (but I really don't want it to hit anywhere along the coast).

Time will tell the future. Just keeping our fingers crossed up here in Upstate NY.

My understanding is that, in order for the storm to shift north, the high pressure front in the Atlantic has to back off otherwise.... What makes it worse is the anticipation, preparation and increasing excitement. Its like telling a 6 year old that Christmas has been cancelled the day before it happens after weeks of looking at the tree and presents. John R.

Aww, that would be so disappointing!
DCL keeps saying they have never canceled a cruise!

I just got a call from DCL. She's says everything is on schedule so far. She was updating her info on where I would be Friday & Saturday and took my cell phone #.
UGH!

DCL called me just a few minutes ago. The representative said about the same thing yours did, CPM. I told her we were driving in from Virginia, and she asked if we were driving in on Saturday (9/4) or if we were headed that way Friday.

It had been our plan to leave early Saturday morning, but I think we may leave Friday night, now, and head as far south as possible. We don't want to drive in hurricane weather, but we don't want to be late getting there, either.

She also took our cell phone numbers and asked where we would be staying. I asked her if we should consider booking a room in Tampa, too, just in case, but she wouldn't say anything about that. I'm sure she didn't want to commit for fear of being held to it if we didn't end up in Tampa. She did tell me she felt like they would have a definite answer by Friday...

Anyway, we're just enjoying the sunshine up here and praying God will spare Florida. They've had enough already this year!

Shannon

Why is DCL calling you and asking for phone numbers? They haven't called me.....had you called them first and left a message?

I called DCL this morning, but I didn't leave a message or anything. I talked with one of the operators, who basically told me (in a very friendly manner) to just sit tight and see what happens. I pretty much figured that was the answer I would receive when I called, but I was impatient to actually TALK to someone....

The second DCL rep called me at home, but didn't reference the first call at all. She just told me that DCL was getting a ton of calls and that they had decided to act "pro-actively". She also told me that DCL had never missed a cruise, which was nice to hear.

I figure you'll get a call sometime today or tonight to make sure your contact numbers/flight info/hotel info is up to date.

DH and I are torn about cancelling our hotel reservation in PC for Saturday night. I guess we'll just wait a while and see what happens...
