Many of the codes are blacked out for Labor Day weekend. I have tried all the tried and true sites for weekly rates and the best I have found so far:

Alamo
MIDSIZE
Aug 30-Sep 6,2003 (8 days)
$207 total with code and coupon

I'd like to compare and share after all my hard work.

What do you think?
I will definitely keep looking but it looks dim!

Today I found a Mini-Van on Alamo for $170.48 week. Tax and Fees total $237.75. The cheapest before this deal on a MV was $276 total.

Gail I was never able to duplicate your rate for my dates. I was hoping to come in less than $200 for an intermediate or larger, but it doesnt look good.

Do you hsave to have a BJ membership to get the BJ's rate? I have a temporary membership that is good thru our stay but we aren't members.

Approximate charges for the vehicle you selected:

Selected Vehicles
Intermediate / $176.39 USD -Weekly
Total Approx. Charges: $ 186.58 USD Rate Details

If you are a member of AAA this is what it would cost you at Hertz for an intermediate for your dates along with a coupon code. Also I see a full size is only $10 more.

LOL, Safety MOM, you and I should go to work for "our" companies. I always smile when you post. :) Personally, I prefer onsite and I do have reservations with both Alamo and National and since my daughter and I can drive the car without additional charge, I believe National is the winner. :) I like the fact that I can pick up my luggage, do down one floor, walk out the door, cross the street, go up one level in the garage, select my car and leave. You don't mind the shuttle, I hate shuttles. :)
I have also had one very very bad experience with Hertz and, while normally one bad experience is not enought to sour me on anything, this one was really bad. Stuff happens, but, I don't trust them and will not use them. I am delighted it works for you and I love your postive attitude and I am sure the posters appreciate all the time you take to look this stuf up. :)
I also don't like the fact that they jerk the prices up with USAA and say they are giving you a 50% discount at 300.00 per week.
That, IMHO, is pretty shabby.

Gail, this is one of those subjects where we will have to agree to disagree. I have rented a number of times with National and once with Alamo. I swore never again with Alamo and gave National several chances to do it better. It didn't happen.

So I looked to Hertz. I believed everyone when they said it was so fast at National and you didn't have to take a shuttle. I didn't enjoy lugging my suitcase across the road, up a floor, walk around and look for a car. Then get in the car and when I am 5 mins down the road the check engine light keeps coming on, the oil level is low, etc.

My own and only experience with Alamo was terrible. It was when they were off site. We waited no exaggeration 2 hours to finally make it to the window. They we go a very nasty agent and a crummy car that he insisted we had to upgrade. We didn't want the upgrade and that made him madder.

Instead at Hertz I don't sit more than a minute before the shuttle pulls away and am driving out of the lot in less than 10 mins. I don't have to decide what color car I want because they made the choice for me. If I ever get a car that doesn't fit the cases I am carrying I go to the window and in less than a minute I have a new car.

So I post the other option at MCO for those that are open minded about trying something different. I haven't seen the onsite advantage that others mention.

Yes I do agree that these companies out to put the two of us on the payroll. :)

Yep agree to disagree works for me. Like I said, I am sure the posters here appreciate all the effort you put in for them.
And, I am truly happy that Hertz works for you. :) National and Alamo have always been good for me and I don't care about taking the bags on that cute little handi cart. The only thing that ticks me off is when the elevator and escalator are down. Now, that is a pain. But, other than that, it is fine. We have also used Avis and I like them very much. I like to choose my car color otherwise I would end up with white and that would not be good!!! :)
But, what is really great is that we can disagree in a very friendly manner. :)

Gail that is what is great about these boards. People can read about others experiences and decide what works best for them.

In all of my car renting days I only got a white car once. It was a Lincoln Continental and I didn't trade it for another one. :) I didn't figure it looked like a tic tac.

LOL, we went to LI a few weeks ago and on the road were 6 WHITE BIG VANS, I told Dee I felt like I was in a box of giant TIC TACS. Calling white cars tic tacs is the best description I have ever heard of white cars.

less than a minute...

those hertz employees must be "super" fast.....

smilawgs

would it depend if you are at shuttle A or B as to how much time is spent on them......???

or do they have separate A and B shuttles...

as posted elsewhere by us

we too do not like the way Hertz jacks up the price and then tells us they are giving us a great discount with CAA....base rate should be base rate but they seem to have different base rates depending on the discounts you are using.....

to be fair i have seen different base rates with "national" too at times....but it does not seem to happen that often and not to the degree ( dollar differential ) that we have seen with Hertz

.Avis is like this too it seems since they have different pricing ( in usd ) if you are Canadian or at least they did the last time we rented a car from them last october...

after using thrifty this last time, would probably not use them again ......took for ever to get a shuttle OUT ( one shuttle bus even by passed the "pickup area" as i was standing there, albeit the signage at mco is not that great, just a "bunch of spaces" saying "car rental " ), long wait in line at the "off site" , car was not FULL and had to have them "top" it up before i could get on the road ( about 15 minutes added total time probably about 50 minutes which was not critical since this was a "quick trip" with nothing planned ) , return could be a hassle too since they also "transfer" people who park at their long term parking lots on the same buses used for " rental agency", good business sense on their part, but if one did know about it , it could add time to "getting" back to the airport ( although i did ask this question when i was renting and was told that the buses were separate )

I am not exaggerating about the speed with which we leave the airport on the shuttle. Because of these boards I always time my Hertz trips because people seem to think it takes a long time. I have taken the shuttle from both sides and never waited.

As far as the rates I think the car agencies take a page from the airlines book. I know when looking for a car to try the rate many ways because some raise it before they lower it. Others are a better deal to begin with. It could be a lot easier but I am willing to work a little to save a lot.

Just wanted to update........

I was able to find at Alamo

4 door midsize for 187.00
same rate code as above, just prices going down.

My rental is 8 days so Im paying for an additional day.

I ll keep looking!
