I have read that Labor Day is the first Monday of September, and so in 2015 is later than normal, on 7th September.

Is it true that the US schools don't go back until two weeks before this event, even if it is later than normal? So, 24th August, when usually it's by 17/18th August.

So, we are looking at having US children off for 2 weeks of our 3 weeks out there :rolleyes2! I am presuming this will have a big effect on crowds during our first two weeks. :worried:

I haven't been able to find US school holiday dates for next year anywhere. Does anyone know where you can find them? The one site I did find didn't have them listed yet (our LEA has ours listed right until 2016 - maybe we are just lucky!).

Thanks :)

The earliest the US schools go back is 2 weeks before Labour Day and in some states now they can not start until after Labour Day.

And it doesn't matter when Labour Day is - as they is what is laid down in law.

2015 is the worst as our schools will start early while US schools will be starting later. I know my daughter returns on Wednesday 2nd September :thumbsup2

Thank you Elise.

Does that mean that they will break up later in July then? I have no idea when they actually break up normally - is it June?

Do you know of anywhere I can look at school holiday dates for next year for that area? I appreciate not all schools will be the same but it gives a rough idea.

I had originally thought only our first week would be heaving (looking at around 10/8 for 3 weeks). But I am beginning to think our second week won't be much better. We could go earlier in the summer holidays if need be (our children break up 17/7 and could go anytime from then), but don't think we'll be gaining anything will we? In fact, might crowds be worse then? I had just originally read that the last two weeks of August are normally quieter so had gone for those, but as you say, 2015 is going to be different from the norm I think.

How do you find beginning of our school holidays - presuming you mean last few weeks of July/first week August?

US schools are off much longer than ours - they will finish before 4th July.

We went 11th July for 16 nights - yes it was busy but it was manageable. Smart use of your time will generally outweigh how busy it is. Summer is busy which is something you can't get away from :rolleyes1

Yes - I know you are right but as just hoping there may be a 'magical' time to go in summer (no pun intended)!

I have a friend who lives in the US and I knew her children got a long summer holiday, but didn't realise it is that long. Next year it is a really long length - wow!

I think we'll stick with mid - end August then. Was just wondering if we'd be better to bring it forward as flights seem a little cheaper (based on this year) end July, but I think if we keep with the original plan, we may get a slightly quieter week our last week, which will be nice as we can then relax a little more, have a few lie ins etc, before we return to the UK. Can't be doing with burn out on holiday :rotfl:.

It's typical, wait what feels like half my life to visit WDW and then the year we choose, the US school summer holidays are longer, and UK ones shorter :worried:.
