Sitting at school, waiting to talk to the science teacher. I'm such a bad bad mommy! DISing while I should be concerned about the kids education. LOL

DS11 got straight A's and B's.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

LOL!!!! You are too funny!

And way to go DS- great grades! :thumbsup2

Parent/ Teacher conferences. The semester ended yesterday.

The run down so far:
DS11 6th grade - "socialization affects performance"
Yep, he's my kid alright. LOL
Doing well in all his classes, needs to learn to shut up, and needs to get organized. Again, my kid. I am so unorganized, just ask Lisa. Over all, his conferences were a lot better than I thought they would be. He clashes with 1 teacher but we basically said deal with it, in life you don't always get along with everyone you work with.

DS6 1st grade - this is the child that the kindergarten teacher wanted to keep back cause he was "immature" and would "struggle" and that "we are doing a disservice to our kid by moving him forward."
Yeah right!!! Teacher is thrilled with the strides he is making. He is in speech, poor kid has a large tongue, just like his mama did. But he is doing fabulously with that, if he speaks slowly and clearly you can understand everything he says. 4 months ago he couldn't say the hard g sound like in goat, heck you couldn't understand anything he said. He physically could not make certain sounds. Poor speech teacher ended up leaving last month, I think DS broke her down. But not before getting him to say goat. ;) :lmao:
He is in remedial reading too. Because of the speech delay, his reading was not up to par. He was at a DRA level of 2 in Sept and is now up to a 6 which is grade level! His regular teacher and his reading teacher both said keeping him back would have been a HUGE mistake. I am soooo glad I stuck to my guns on that one. I really hemmed and hawed about it, and literally 2 days before school started the principal called me to make sure I was keeping him in Kindergarten and I was like um, no. The teacher lied to him and said we had agreed to retention. :furious: no wonder she won't even acknowledge me in the halls. She's mad that I was right.

Whew, I was so worried that I had made the wrong decision, I'm glad I was validated by 2 teachers. YAY!!

DS7's (2nd grade) conference is tomorrow, he needs some help with his letters, b and d are still getting mixed up. The reading teacher wants him to be on the Lexia program but I need to be the one to initiate that. So I will mention it tomorrow. Apparently she mentioned it last year but the teachers didn't see it as a big deal, it's not an issue unless they are mixing things up in 2nd grade. Poor kid got a complex last year because his teacher called him the backwards king. I don't want it to be an issue, ya know.

Whew, glad that's over!!!! I'm glad DH was with me, I hate conferences. I feel like I'm the student all over again.

Tell the boys Miss Lisa is VERY proud of them.:thumbsup2

Ryan ;) must be getting his socialization from my side of the family.

Always stick to your guns about your kids, be it doctors, educators, etc. You know your babies best. In your face, Ms. Kindergarten Teacher.

Yeah, what she said. In your face Kindergarden teacher.

Glad the boys are doing so well. :thumbsup2

Sounds like everyone is doing fine!!!
As for the kdg. teacher you should smile at her in the hallway and if DS is with you praise him for such a great job he is doing! ;)

Tell the kids great work, that their Aunt is very proud of them!!! :)

We have report cards on in 2 weeks.. trimester ends next Friday.. so far so good.. all A's for 2 of them.. and A & B's for 3 of them...

I love it! In your face Ms. Kindergarten teacher. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I was a nervous wreck as to wether we made the right decision for DS6, I about gave myself a heart attack. I almost cried when she said it was a good choice.

Yeah Ryan is definitely from our blood isn't he?! BTW everyone his name is not Ryan but Lisa seems to think it is! LOL So when she adopts him for the day he's Ryan.

And every teacher was like, he's so smart, bright, knowledgeable, etc. So unlike his mother when she went there. :rolleyes1

Oh trust me I do!!!! She won't even look at me! LOL She said hi to DH in the hallway last night but not a word to me!

1 more today for DS7, but he's easy!

Congrats - it is always a good feeling to know you are doing what's best when you have been second guessing yourself!! As for the kindergarten teacher.... :stir: (ok, only kidding...)

I know what you mean about conferences. I always feel a little sick to my stomach. I have to say though that DD is like me- goody two shoes. She could use some work on reading and math is her stong suit (that is soooo not from me!!)!!!!

way to go boys! and mom too! don't let those teachers get to you, keep up the great work. Good luck with tonight's conference!

Oh it's parent's evening time there too huh? I'm waiting on hearing how my neice is doing this year.

Congrats to your kids Buffy! They're all doing so well, especially DS6, that's such an amazing jump!

good for you buffy and your ds. i hate that second guessing thing. and the conferences thing also makes me sick. i got our letter today that it will be at the end of november. oooohhh boy. i'll be sick until i hear that he's doing ok. he does do a speech class also. he did not have the "g" or the "k" now he has those 2 but does not have the "L" and the "th". :confused3 he had them, not sure where they went!!!!!

as for mrs. kindergarten teacher~ really i would just have to pretend she's not there. not looking. 'cause my mamma told me "if you can't say anything nice then you say nothing at all!" so that's how i play it!

Yep no K's here either until this summer. I worked with DS6 every day.

DS7's conference was today. He is doing well too. He needs to work on his reading speed and his math memorization. He is reading at an upper 2nd grade level, which is amazing considering he couldn't read at all in first grade.

All in all it was a good conference. I'm very pleased with the progress they are all making.

YAY!!!! Now I can breathe again!

Good for you Buffy! If it was the type of K teacher that dd had there would be no way I would of held her back if she said to!

I can tell dd's reading is improving, as she went into the resource room the end of 3rd grade. She is great with math and science. She needs to learn when to stop talking!

My PTconference in Wed morning.
