La Hacienda review with pictures

Wow - sorry you had a bad experience. I am also a lover of almost all kinds of Mexican food - so it is disappointing to hear that WDW seems to have missed the mark with this one. I was hoping for a new option for our next trip. Hopefully they'll make some adjustments and improve.

I am not a fan of smoke flavoring...one of the only meals I have ever sent back in my life was an order of "smoked sirloin" at a local steak house. Yours is not the first review I have read that has complained about the smoke flavoring.

Sounds like desserts might be the way to go...

We love smoke flavor, so to turn us off it had to be very strong (which it was). :crazy2:

One thing I forgot to mention about the dessert. They give you a spoon (only) to eat the empanada. It was REALLY hard to do. DS11 knocked his fruit off the plate trying to dig out a bite with his spoon. I'd recommend asking for a fork and knife. :goodvibes

OP - great review.

Coincidentally we just cancelled our reservation yesterday. The reviews are majority negative or neutral and we would have been horribly disappointed to get a bad seat for Illuminations.

Thanks.

It really is sad that the food isn't good. It is such a beautiful restaurant in a perfect location. Hopefully they will make some tweaks to the menu.

Now I don't kow if I should cancel our ADR, we do not like smoked food, that is one reason we cure our own bacon and hams (most are smoked on to p of curing). Is there another place from where we also could see the fireworks? OP, thank for the review, I know that everybody has different taste but the smoking flavour just doesn't work for us. Beside that, I find the menu to be pretty authentic.

I would not plan on a restaurant to be your viewing location for Illuminations. There are no guarantees, even if you were to get a reservation there at the optimal time, that you'll be seated with a view of the show.

This was discussed a bit last month... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=39487706&postcount=2

I am planning on having a good dinner, the view would be a bonus:goodvibes

I would also step outside to get a view if I wanted to. We do not plan on eating that late but thought that it would be nice coming out and being able to have a great view on the fireworks.

When we left the restaurant Illuminations we getting ready to start, and the crowd in that area was HUGE. There was no good place to stand. We walked for a while but finally gave up and just stood at the back of the crowd. We couldn't see much at all - especially after a dad put his kid on his shoulders right in front of us. :guilty:

I agree with your review. Our service was fine, food terrible. We split the La Hacienda, but weren't served beans and rice  that would have been the perfect compliment, I wonder if it's "off" the meal and has to be ordered as a side?

I'm going to call or go down there this week and find out.

Put me down as another person who won't return to La Hacienda. It just wasn't good enough. Service was fine. Very good in fact. But the food was not memorable in any way. San Angel is better in almost every way, including the theming and ambience.

I had been looking forward to eating there, but in the end I was just disappointed.

Our experience couldn't have been more different. I plan to post a full review and pics soon but, until then, don't rush to cancel your reservations. It may not be for everyone but our family of 6 had a wonderful meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our margarita flight and the lovely lady who presented them, our waiter was great and we sat next to the window and enjoyed the fireworks. Five out of six of our party said it was the best meal of the trip. (1 steak lover couldn't forget Le Cellier.) I thought the shrimp and scallops were wonderful. To each his own...

I'm sorry your experience wasn't good. It was probably mine and my husband's favorite a year ago. We even enjoyed it more than the California Grill :rotfl:. We shared the taco trio and some adult drinks and had a blast. The taco trio was delicious!

We are BIG Mexican food fans. We have some GREAT authentic restaurants near home and were excited to try the Tequila Bar and food here. We dined in June 2011 and it was awful : ( Sorry to say, the Margaritas were even bad. The worst! The food was smoky and it all tasted the same. Sorry, but I won't be going back. We've never tried the San Angel Inn so I hope to try that next year? We did enjoy eating at Fulton's Crab House : ) Also Wolfgang Puck's was really good!

;)
