Does anyone know how I can go about requesting a table that's has a viewing of Illuminations?

We have a dinner reservation at 8:30pm, and would really like to be able to eat on the patio to see the show while we eat.

Any suggestions?

If your ADR isn't until 8:30, there isn't much of a chance that you will be seated on the patio. Everyone out there will already be camped out & holding their tables. You can ask when you check in, but restaurants often won't allow you to wait for a particular table because then everyone would try to do it!

Would it help to get an earlier ADR? Is 7:45pm better? I'm not sure how viewing locations work. Is this an area where you can actually SEE the show? Or are there lines of people in front of the resturant?

Sorry so many questions, just not sure how to manage this at all

I don't think there is a patio at La Hacienda, it's all inside. The outside area is the quick service seating. They do pipe the music in and have some nice viewing from the tables near the windows. Even if you request one, though, there's no guarantee you'll be seated with a good view.

The only way to request a window seat is at the podium when you check in for your reservation. As others have said, it's basically luck of the draw, because you're competing with nearly every other diner there who are also requesting window seats for Illuminations. You'll need to arrive fairly early (probably earlier than even 7:45), and be prepared to waste a lot of time camping out at your table.

In December my party of 7 had an ADR at 7:30 on a night when the fireworks were at 9:30. We requested a table by a window and got one, and our meal didn't feel very slow, largely because we ordered appetizers and drinks. We got our dessert after the fireworks.

We ate here in January - early dinner so not for Illuminations. We were seated at a window table and I didn't think it had a very good view for Illuminations. It was an off center view and there were posts outside of the window. The best we've done at a restaurant was eating at Rose & Crown. Everyone in the restaurant is invited out to view Illuminations- they have a reserved area. It's small but we had a great view!

To each their own, but 2 1/2 hours or so for dinner seems like an incredible waste of time to my family.

Everyone is different, though.

It was the one time all seven of us could sit, relax, and chat, and it came at the end of a long day of park hopping. Sometimes slowing down is good, and it beat standing around waiting for fireworks.

We had an 8pm reservation and were seated in the dining room with all the glass windows that looked out onto the lake, but we were towards the back of the room. Tables emptied out as it got closer to showtime and they moved people who were already being served to the empty tables. I don't know whether they asked or the staff offered. We didn't have an amazing view but they piped the music in and we saw enough. So I guess there's no way to make the request to guarantee a table with a view, but if there seems to be room you could always request to be moved.

Thank you all for your experiences. We have a family of seven Total ( three kids ) , and you know how they like to wait LOL.

I'll weigh the pros and cons and see what we come up with. Thanks again !!
