I find myself posting all the time complaining about the poor customer service provided these days.

But I got teriffic customer service today from L.L. Bean, and I want to share my experience. My father just moved to AZ and was having his mail sent to his brother's house until he got settled. When he gave me his address, he wrote down the wrong house number. I sent him and his wife a balsam table top tree which should have been delivered almost two weeks ago. I found out this morning the tree has not been delivered. I don't know if it is sitting in a post office somewhere or if someone else received it in error and decided to keep it for himself. Either way, he doesn't have it.

So I called L.L. Bean, and even though the address issue was my fault, they are sending him another tree, and they are even expediting the shipping. He will receive it in time for Christmas. I am so impressed. I will definitely do business with them again! :goodvibes

I have never had ANYTHING but great customer service from LL Bean OR Lands End. Yes, some of their stuff is a little spendy, but so worth it. Land's End once replaced an 18 month old very used diaper bag for me, because a velcro patch had ripped off, and there was no way to repair it. AND they refunded me my shipping to send the ripped one back.

So glad your dad will get his tree in time for Christmas!

We bought a book back to use as a diaper bag when DS14 was a baby, figuring that he would be able to use it long after babyhood. It got extremely heavy use, and when he was 11 the waterproof lining started to peel. They replaced it, no questions asked. He is still using the replacement every day; he has it with him at school as we speak.

This is a nice thread to start. I complain alot about CS too. It just isn't the same as it used to be. I usually come home from shopping a little disappointed. Anyway...I went to the Toyota dealer for an oil change the other day and I had the BEST customer service...they gave me a loaner car and every person I encountered was wonderful (I think there were 5 different people that I talked with). They usually send surveys...if they do, it will be 5 stars all the way. If they don't, I will be writing a letter. People doing good jobs deserve recognition so it will encourage them to keep it up.

Great thread, and sooo true. LL Bean is the best!
Last year on black Friday we stopped at the LL Bean outlet on our way up north. We got an *amazing* deal on a new set of cross country skis and boots for me. The boots were roughly $15 when all the sales were added up. The skis were a great deal too, but I don't remember what now. About a month later when we finally got snow, we decided to try the new set out. Turns out the sales person in the outlet had sold us the wrong boots. So the boots that were such a great deal were useless. Mom called LL Bean, and the guy without any issues, gave us a huge discount on new boots (so they ended up around $40, instead of around $80), and paid the shipping on those, plus the shipping to return the old useless ones. We know that they didn't even have to do that (despite the fact that they made the mistake), so we were impressed.
Everytime we've dealt with them it's been great. We've had nothing but wonderful service from them.

I LOVE LLBean! Their customer service has always been great, and I love the warranties on their products. They make some really good quality stuff, so I don't mind paying the extra. I had a canvas briefcase that I purchased for my father for Christmas one year and the following year he already broke it. Well, I called them up, and they sent me a new one, free of charge, no questions asked. I just had to pay for shipping (and obviously send the old one back). They're really great! Their stuff comes really quickly too. The only problem I have with them is they send me a catalog several times a week - a person could seriously go broke!

Another extremely satisified L.L. Bean customer. I wish all companies were as reliable and easy to deal with.

I love LL Bean! Everything I've ever bought from them has been quality. Their flannel sheets are the best!

Sometimes great customer service comes from where you would least expect it. I stop at a Subway sometimes on the way to work to pick up a sandwich. I stop between 8:30-9pm and it's always these 2 young guys working alone. They look like gangsta's (nothing wrong with that, my nephew looks and dresses just like them, they just don't give the impression that they would be interested in providing quality service especially at a fast food place- picture Eminem and 50 cent working at Subway and you get the idea). Those 2 guys are always really friendly, they fix my sub just like I ask for it (which is a little different than the norm) and always wish me a good night, last time I stopped they wished me a Merry Christmas. I'm going to give a call to their manager and report what a good job they do.

I've always been impressed with the service provided by LL Bean and Land's End as well.

This reminds me of a discussion I had with my mother a few years ago. She complains about customer service a lot, especially with regard to purchasing clothing (dealing with returning things, etc.). I asked her why she doesn't just buy from LL Bean and Land's End. (She's very computer literate, and has no problem with buying clothing online.) She said that the reason was because she can always get what she's looking for a lot less expensive than from LL Bean and Land's End. I told her that I bet the poor service she was getting was related to how much less she was paying. She told me that I was right, and that it was worth getting poor service for how much money she was saving.

Well, at least I got a Get out of Jail Free card from the discussion -- I don't have to listen to her complain about customer service anymore! :)

I've had wonderful experiences with LL Bean and Lands End. I honestly think the prices aren't that far off other stores and the quality is fantastic. I always pick up Lands End stuff at Sears and if you catch it on sale, its much better.
